The Longing is intended as a one-time experience. You choices and reflections will lead you to an inevitable ending.

However, I understand that the majority of players, who have paid for a game, want to have the possibility to reset and restart the game. This is indeed possible, although I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Not because of technical issues, but because I believe the emotional impact will not be the same. You might be ending up robbing yourself of a unique experience.

The Longing ist als einmalige Erfahrung konzipiert. Deine Selbstreflektion und daraus entstehende Entscheidungen führen zu einem unausweichlichen Ende.

Jedoch verstehe ich es natürlich, wenn Spieler das Spiel trotzdem neustarten wollen, für das sie ja Geld bezahlt haben. Das ist in der Tat möglich, jedoch eben nicht empfohlen. Nicht aus technischen Gründen, sondern weil ich denke, dass es die emotionale Wucht reduziert. Eine einzigartige Erfahrung sollte eben einzigartig bleiben.

if you want to restart nonetheless, here is how:

If you hit an ending screen where it says "THE LONGING HAS ENDED", you can start a completely new game by waiting for circa 10 minutes. You will notice the slight fading of the text.

Remember that tragedies are real endings too. Not all stories can have a happy conclusion.But if you're overwhelmed by tragedy, you can look for the backup save file and disable steam cloud.

Wenn Du trotzdem neustarten willst, hier eine Anleitung:

Auf dem Endbildschirm, auf dem "DIE SEHNSUCHT WURDE BEENDET" steht, 10 Minuten zu warten eröffnet die Option zum Zurücksetzen des Spiels. Der Text verschwindet über diese Zeit langsam.

Tragische Enden sind auch Enden.Aber wenn Dich die Trauer zu sehr übermanntkannst Du das Backup-Savegame suchen, das vom Spiel gemacht wird. Dazu muss Steamcloud deaktiviert werden.

I have a question. My boyfriend bought the game and got to one ending.
I wanted to play too, and restarted the game. Did not found this way to restart at time, while I got to a thread suggesting to cancel the "studio seufz" folder and disable cloud, and so I did. I played for two weeks. Then I saw there were new upgrades to download, and i thought to re-enable cloud. This brought me to the previous ending screen, my boyfriend's one. I lost all my progresses and I am so upset.
Is there a way to get my game back? I already know this will be hard, but I got so angry and sad I could smash something. I'm so in love with Shade, I loved the Idea to play until the end :(
Is there a way I can resume my game?
And If I decide to restart, will I be able to download upgrades or will this bring me to previous ending every time?

You can send me the content of the studio seufz folder via email and I will see what I can do:

It has nothing to do with the update though, it just seems like Steamcloud "updated" your saves, meaning replacing them with the old ones still left in the cloud. Normally Steam cloud asks first before doing something like this, so that's weird.

I think it doesn't make a difference at this point, since the damage was already done. So you can keep it enabled.

yes it's possible. Type this code in 399d-23h-59m-59s while the game is running and then press ENTER. This will wipe your saves, use with high caution. DON'T do this if you think you messed up because you lost an item or anything like that. The game has multiple solutions to problems.

ich habe das Spiel durchgespielt und bin nun auch am Ende. Leider habe ich den Geburtstag des Schattens verpasst. Gibt es die Möglichkeit ein früheres Savefile zu laden um nicht alles noch einmal spielen zu müssen?

Hast Du das Spiel komplett beendet, oder bist du lediglich am Ende der 400 Tage? Es gibt auf jeden Fall eine Möglichkeit, den Geburtstag noch zu erleben, auch wenn man ihn verpasst hat...

Ansonsten schreib mir eine mail an [e-mail] dann erkläre ich Dir, wie Du ein früheres savegame laden kannst.

If you are struggling with going back to the game after an ending (without losing all progress!), here is how:

Goto your saves, they are here:

On Windows:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\LocalLow\Studio Seufz\The Longing

On Mac:
/Users/*username*/Library/Application Support/Studio Seufz

On Linux:
.config/unity3d/Studio Seufz

Open saveData2.txt and SaveAs->saveData.txt, overwriting the existing saveData.txt. If you start the game now, you will be there before the ending. This way you can revive Shade. If that didn't work, turn off Steamcloud saves and try the same thing again.
