Why the hell does Casual Diificulty not save progress?!
It claims it saves progress, but it literally does not. I can't level up because I keep dying all the damn time, making it impossible to ever get anywhere becaue I have to start the level over again and never gain any freaking stats or anything allowing me to get upgrades!
What the hell?!

It literally says it saves progress, but it doesn't even save level progress. It saves no progress!
Why would you claim it saves progress when it does not save progress at all!

Tell me what I'm missing here, please, because the game is too damn difficult on casual as it stands. Without leveling.

And I'm talking about the first main area! The damage is absurd there.
How do you expect anyone to get past the first area without actually leveling up to the point where you can progress!
You need a stupid amount of health, and a stupid amount of damage increasing to the magic staff to kill the demon ladies with how strong their attack is.

Seriously, please tell me why you have claimed that Casual saves progress when you literally ALWAYS HAVE TO START the level over again!
THat is not saving progress! That is the complete opposite of saving progress! Same with your stats! Level up doesn't do anything if you die before you can ever spend it!

Progress is saved after you have beaten a zone and are back at the workshop. Each episode has 4 zones + a boss and each zone has 2-4 levels. So you have to beat 2-4 levels and then when you are back in the workshop, the game will save your progress. Sounds hard but it's not.

I'm sorry, but that makes no sense. It would mean there is no way to get past that fight with the two demon ladies because it's not possible to ever upgrade your stats or skills.
And you would need a ton of upgrades to beat that trap.

Hey there! I think you might be missing some mechanics! The staff can be charged up by holding down the attack button, making it pierce and do more damage! But beware, as charing the staff drains mana until you fire the shot! You can also use the axe and strafe around their projectiles, or the dagger, which in the same respect of holding down the attack button, you throw a magic dagger at them for free!

This ought to help you get past the enemies much faster. I reccomend using a mouse and keyboard if possible (if you're not already), as it makes playing games like these much easier.

Remember to use corners to your advantage, and make sure to strafe around the enemy projectiles!

Your progress saves after you clear a zone and return back to the workshop, which there are a certain ammount of levels in a zone.

Keep an eye out for cracked walls (opened by hitting them with an axe) and walls that are sort of out of place looking (opened by pressing the 'use' button on them), as they'll give you health, mana, and EXP from the items inside.

Spells are best used in the long range, and the guns are more for the short range, as they're faster firing and have no charging time to do good damage.

You also want to use a mix of both magic, melee, and guns! Saving ammo and mana can be really detremental to your survival, so try using your axe or magic dagger on some of the weaker enemies.

If you're still having trouble with the first section, just keep practicing, and make sure to have fun! Learning and conquering a challenge is part of the fun, don't forget that :P

THank you! That is some good advice and I will use it.

Level 1 in zone 1 is horribly unbalanced with cheap death. actually it is by far the hardest level of zone 1 because of it.

Hi!

The progress does save, it just happens every time you enter the workshop. a message "progress saved" should show up together with a sound notification.

Best Regards,
Jakub

Okay. I see that I was confused.
I apologize for frustrations.

this has to be a joke, youre playing right?

I don't undestand why people keep saying progress only saves in the workshop. If you exit the game from the first level of a zone, it will send you back to the workshop. But after that, it will save at the start of each level. I tested it just now to make sure, and going back into the game takes me directly to the level I stopped on.

Same thing when you die. You should never have to replay more than one level, at least on casual difficulty. In fact, it has to start you on your current level, because it actually costs a life to return to the workshop in the middle of a zone.

Also, a side note if you're having trouble in later levels: Playing a single level from the main menu will affect your main save. If you pop into a level and collect health and ammo, you will still have it when you go back to your save by pressing continue. I don't know how this works with experience, but I know I've gained at least one extra stat point just from replaying a level that way.

That seems to be a recent change then. Because when I made this thread, that was not how Casual Difficulty worked.
I haven't read any patch notes for this game, but it most certainly wasn't that way.

Ah okay. Not sure when it must've changed, but it's been that way for my whole playthrough, and I just tested it to make sure. There seems to be some confusion in other threads, but it is definitely saving on every level, at least on casual.

That's good to know now. I'll probably give the game another go sometime soon then.
I was just frustrated so much by the stupid succubi enemies on this first level and their absurd damage output.
The trap from getting off the lift kept killing me so much I had no clue how to deal with it.

Casual has infinite lives, so I don't mind spending 1 out of infinity from time to time. :)

I just was annoyed so much to die on the second level ever, after finally getting through that trap, and finding out I had to keep playing the same two levels over and over and over again. Without any progression, or any way of progressing at all.
I got good advice here, but I was just so disappointed at first. THe game looked fun, but it needed a lot more balance.

Still have a lot of problems with the knight guys too. But at least they don't shoot at you for 1/3 your health!

There is definitely some weird balance, and even a bug or two that kept getting me killed at one point. I think the game actually gets a bit easier after some upgrades and new weapons.

I'm not sure if the shielded knights have some sort of bullet resistance or not. They seem to take a lot of pistol rounds to kill, compared to how fast they died to my flare gun on the first playthrough. And the staff and crossbow both seem more effective against them.

Shielded knights have special hitbox ;) Shooting their "shields" won't do them any harm, you have to aim for their "body" part!

Crossbow is most likely to penetrate these shields.

Ohhh, interesting. I usually aim away from the shield, but I assumed it didn't actually matter since they are billboard sprites. That's cool.
