For my opinion and exp of the game, pretty hard on normal dif. And this is annoying. When you want to enjoy the story and puzzles just slow you down and keep you until you finish them. In this point, each stage looks like real nightmare.

Thankfully there are checkpoints in the puzzles, and you can re-try and learn. Sometimes a part seems unreasonably difficult, but feels good once you get passed it.

I never had trouble with it, Stage 7 can be a bit of an annoyance, and Stage 9 has mystery and monster blocks that are pure RNG.

I wanted to start on normal but game asked me if I am sure? And suggested easy ;) So I started on easy :P
I read on one review, that it is not shame to play Catherine on easy! ;)

If your spatial orientation sucks, you will get frustrated.

If not, you're good to go.

Always funny to watch some streamers play this game and fail miserably at simple, early levels, lol.

It's pure puzzle solving and it can get quite devilish on the higher difficulties and babel. It's really fun though it just takes a while to get used to the mechanics which are very different from any other games you might have played.

Worst is when you're playing on hard + trying to get gold every stage. Need to replay over and over till you have a system down to get that "perfect" run.

I needed to retry a lot in each stage. (Normal difficulty)
It took me about 1 hour for Gold Prize in each stage.

The puzzles provide a fair challenge, and it's refreshing to me as many games are brutally easy now-a-days. However if you're more intererested in the story, there's also an easy mode. If that's not easy enough, there's a very easy mode too:

This is the only difficulty not actually selectable on the main menu by default. To play on "Very Easy," hold down the Tab/Back/Select button for a few seconds on the main screen (highlighting "Golden Theater.") After you hear a tone, select 'Easy' mode, which will now be Very Easy. You can switch between Easy and Very Easy as much as you want during the game.

* The, "Very Easy," difficulty comes with the capability of undoing your last move (10 times) by pressing Back/Select during the level.
* This mode's Nightmare stages are the same as "Easy."
* Collecting a Mystic Pillow grants you 3 retries.
* Safety Bonus score multiplier of 2.0
* Power Drinks have a high chance of showing up on top of any block you pull out. These are more powerful versions of Energy Drinks, and allow you to climb 3 blocks at once for a limited time.
