Thankfully there are checkpoints in the puzzles, and you can re-try and learn. Sometimes a part seems unreasonably difficult, but feels good once you get passed it.
I read on one review, that it is not shame to play Catherine on easy! ;)
If not, you're good to go.
Always funny to watch some streamers play this game and fail miserably at simple, early levels, lol.
It took me about 1 hour for Gold Prize in each stage.
The puzzles provide a fair challenge, and it's refreshing to me as many games are brutally easy now-a-days. However if you're more intererested in the story, there's also an easy mode. If that's not easy enough, there's a very easy mode too:
