game bugged or is it my connection?

Almost every game I play with my friend ends up being cut short by a bot replacing them without warning or announcing. Like suddenly, they will start shooting almost instantly and place mines without hesitation. They say they aren't kicked from the game, rather, they are waiting for my turn to end despite the fact that I ended it a while ago. Is this just my connection? We are on a discord call the whole time and have no troubles there. I don't have these issues with something more complex like Monster Hunter World, which is why I assume it is the game and not on my end. Is anyone else having these issues?

I'm definitely having online game problems, but different from what you're experiencing. All mine take place BEFORE a game starts. I'll get matched with another human player, we both click ready, but nothing happens. The game just freezes. Only way out is to Alt - Tab and close the game from the taskbar. Or I'll get as far as the screen where you position your ships, click ready, but my opponent is stuck permanently waiting.

No problems if I actually manage to start a game, though.

Maybe the difference is bc I invite my opponent and you matchmake? But still at the end of the day idk why these issues are happening to anyone. Hopefully they can patch it out or somehow fix it bc at this point it is unplayable for my friend and I.
