Cartographers table with "No Map"
Devs should really let us check the map without player indicator, cause it's optional and requires extra steps.

Now when you interact with it it does nothing when map is off. It's so simple but they left it out somehow...

I like this idea. Perhaps a mod create this option of play. I mean the map is still there and records where you have been when playing with the toggle off option.

I like this idea. Being able to use the Cartographer table in immersive mode, as an option.

It certainly could use some nuance, and tools. At this point I am just glad the basic functionality just works, tbh. Crucial for me, as a multi-toon player.

My group is looking into immersive mode but total lack of map feels bad. Planning things is extra hard and we using external tools to map things out feels wrong.

If cartographers map would allow access to see map, we could agree if we are going to that swamp or that swamp and if we saw boss on that island or the next one. It is not always clear if two landmasses are different islands or if it is just a C shaped island.

Well it was a second hand thought for them. I know from asking for one myself it didn't seem to be something they had in mind from the outset. But, I think the studio group has a certain dynamic in the way that they play and approach it. It narrows the development track, and limits the insight within the group. I have a feeling there is a tidal wave of group-think amongst this studio, so I guess we will see how it pans out. AFAIK modders could essentially pick it up from here and for the most part complete and update the game. It remains to be seen if IG feels the same.
So how could this be applied as a mechanic? Would the normal game map only be available when you build and interact with a cartographer table? There could also be a navigation scroll, an item that needs to be taken to a table and they can both update each other. Then you would also need to make Vegvisirs/waypoints which are physical landmarks, and appear on the map, much like the bed. OR you could pin certain items, like portals, to a map.

Yes! This has been requested multiple times, and I think it would be a good addition. It also makes the Hildir quests playable in no-map mode.

I also would like an option for a less accurate map with more of a hand-drawn look.
