Patch notes: Flametal spires now have a low chance to start sinking
Nobody wants this... at least make it a server setting

I tried it... Got half a spire mined out before it started sinking, got back to shore, watched it, then went and mined 2 more blocks while it was sinking.

It sinks VERY slowly.

There's flametal in fortresses and you can pick your battles with the spires. Go after easier to mine ones not quite so deep in lava pools, and bring a shield generator/basalt bombs with you otherwise.

Gotta find that middle ground somehow, can't have existing falling bugs in the game when mining or people will complain, and can't make it too easy for everyone either by not making it sink at all.

Having a slower sinking animation & lower chance to sink after mining sounds about right to have as the fix for now. I'll take it as it is.

I did not experience the falling bug in my 3 Ashlands play-throughs and found the existing leviathon behavior consistent with their Ocean cousins. With Queen mining power I was usually able to clear 30-40 flametal from a spire before it sunk and had a few deaths where I was a bit too greedy. I had to learn to clear the spawns from the area so that asksvin and voltures did not knock me off the basalt islands going to or returning from the spire. Not sure what the new behavior will look like but it seems there is still quite a lot of tuning in the PTB before it comes to live branch anyway.

I'm of the same thinking. Just hanging out for ptb to catch up & go live really. I still have plenty to do in the meantime to keep me occupied however.

i specifically chewed them out for switching this feature off, im so glad to see it come back

glad op thinks I, and everyone holding the opposite opinion to them, do not exist.

as it stands the only thing that seperates flametal being an exciting new metal from being just another boring ore to mine is the environmental risk of it sinking into the lava below.

I think most of us expected the sinking behavior to come back, at least. IG did say in one of their older update posts that they wanted the spires to function this way, but the free-fall animation bug didn't have an easy fix.

I do hope whatever they've done to correct this also applies to leviathans, too, because I've honestly died more often to the animation bug out on the ocean than down in the Ashlands.

I only encountered that falling-animation-bug once in my life, and even then there was a way to work around it.
Also I did not have that much a problem with the old sinking chances. Guess it will make things a bit easier.

I'm glad they did not have to remove the sinking mechanic totally. It adds a bit of a challenge and everyone who thinks there should be more time to mine: Siince we have defeated the queen we can buff our mining speed.
