Say 4 mushrooms, 8 honey, 1 cooked serpent meat = 4 Serpent Stew
Alternate would be half that. 2 mushroom+4 honey+1 cooked serp. = 2 Serpent Stew.
10+ pouds of ingredients for a 1 pound single serving does seem more than a little unfair.
Agreed atleast 2 stew would be nice
It's bad enough that fish exist, and that 99% of players don't know how to fish properly with a raft to make the fish grind real quick. Comparing this to baiting out a serpent with a Karve, bring it to shallow shores, trap it and kill it for several pieces of that delicious meat; I can get serpent meat faster than grinding for the rod.
i have a decent amount serpent stew but i never use it because "thats my really good food to be saved for special occasions" which never arrive. i basically select it out of rotation because it isnt abundant enough to be used in regular rotation.
I mean... isn't that supposed to be the point? Plus, serpent meat floats on water; you don't have to bother with a harpoon, so you can just instakill any serpents you find with a handful of frost arrows and collect your reward.
If you could have the best food in the game active 24/7 with little effort, then there wouldn't be much of a point to have any other budget food items available.
The food items I think are hard, expensive and unnecessary are the onion based recipes. Onion soup is not really an upgrade since it's only 20 minutes and wolf skewer is less health than serpent stew but by the time I've started to make wolf skewers I've usually got stacks of serpent stew. I'd rather turn that wolf meat into jerky for some good home and travel food
Maybe it's just a risk reward style thing in the game, if you choose to farm at home you got mediocre soup, if you choose to hunt serpent and drakes you get some good stuff
This is kinda what I'm talking about. Serpent meat isn't really that hard to get in large quantities, especially once you've got access to Frost Arrows.
I actually have the opposite take. Since I often explore mountains early (frost arrows and the Fenris Coat, typically), onions often make turnips completely obsolete by the time I actually get a large amount of them. Onion soup is much easier to make than Turnip Stew, since you need a large amount of boar meat to sustain it over time, while Onion Soup is just onions. The soup is even craftable at a Level 2 Cauldron, and if you need a better stamina food, then Eyescreams are available at Level 3.
Wolf Skewers are effectively just better Sausages, but I often pair them with Sausages in addition to one Stamina option (Eyescream, Onion Soup, or Turnip Stew if neither of the previous options are possible).
i think firing frost arrows into the water is a lot less fun than dragging onto shore and beating it up, or letting local mobs beat it up. ive never killed a serpent on the open ocean.
I'm just saying that from a practical point of view, you can kill Serpents when you find them in roughly twenty seconds, if not less. And you're likely going to find a Serpent if you sail around the ocean all night.
