Valheim is a beautifully handcrafted game.
At min, I would like to see weapons/tools found in loot that could even maybe have special traits. Nothing crazy, just a reason to keep looting POIs. Then, I would like to see old equipment and looted weapons be able to get broken down with at least a chance to get ore. This could also help the issue of not being able to get iron to build a stone cutter till after your base is being destroyed if you didn't moat it. For real, game needs a way to at least be able to get a few bits of iron early to have a reason to maybe not moat every base. Not enough to be reasonable to grind gear before the Elder of course.
Not bothering with mods till the patches and updates are more stable, so yeah, I am ignorant of their nuances for now. Any ways, assumptions made above is the main point there.
Also, I agree with Goku on one point, there. EpicLoot is horribly imbalanced. It's also pretty limited. Been trying out JewelCrafting my past few games, and I like it a bit better (not with base values, though), though my buddy says he far prefers EpicLoot.
It's just dead-boring to me if everything is so easy to get (depending on how it's balanced).
I thought about it at first by taking the terraria route with those type of reforges, but realize that doesn't feel like valheim, and i think the system darkwood has would be better.
https://darkwood.fandom.com/wiki/Shovel - This is one of the main weapons and it has 4 main upgrades, of which you can only pick two. Either focusing on reducing stamina drain, increasing damage, or increasing durability - of which being two, a minor upgrade and a major one, though requiring an expensive item.
I can imagine it being behind an anvil work station, having maybe 2-3 upgrades to start off, and can be increased via work station upgrades to possibly 7 or so. It could follow the same theme that darkwood has, only being able to have 2 upgrades for each weapon.
Examples of the upgrades could be;
-lightweight, reduce stamina usage
-sharpened, increase damage
-tough, increase durability
-hard, increase block armour
-dynamic, decrease windup time, aka making weapons swing faster
-executioner, deal increase damage based on missing enemy health
-barbaric, increase damage based on missing health
-sadistic, killing/hurting enemies steals their life, healing you
That's just a list i came up with, and the variables could of course be tweaked. The more unique upgrades could require unique item drops from later biomes, or minibosses that could be added. It would eliminate bloating that epic loot has, requiring more of an investment of time and resources that would reward players that take the time to prepare.
