Valheim

Valheim

It is TIME! To look into improving the crafting and the crafting menu.
I know I am very active this week - the reason is I have been waiting to let you wonderful developers finish your Mistlands content. Many reasons why! But I hope you are open to much feedback on game issues now, ones that may have been here all along and unrelated directly to Mistlands content :D

Just as a side note: I have found that I enjoy the smaller content updates, as much, or even more than the big one of Mistlands...

I understand that Valheim is first and foremost an Adventure game, but Devs also talk about coziness alot. I also understand that the intention may not be to have many dozens of build pieces, so with that awareness I would like to suggest:

We had Hearth & Home. At was WONDERFUL! Perhaps a 2nd round of base improvement updates called Forge & Keep?

The list of currently main desires i've seen from the community.
Masonry and Carpentry:
  • IT IS TIME - The building tab is too cluttered. Split into Masonry and Carpentry tabs
  • Along with this please make a stone hammer for stone and wood mallet for wood - stone hammer can be made at the currently unused stonecutter.
    - It can be difficult to select wood when stone pieces overlay and vice-versa... this would help in complex builds.
    - By differentiating you can also make destruction of normal stone possible with a normal crafting table present AND stone hammer equipped. <3
  • We need maybe 2-5 more normal stone pieces. Not many. With more room in menu this would be good time, yes?
  • Longer fire duration. Campfires and Bonfires are good, but we need more time out of Hearths, and we really really need more types of fires for in-home builds. A fireplace for starters... A stone brazier would be ideal additionally. Some sort of wooden Ingle too, as you don't always have ground or stone in tall builds.
  • We need one or two more types of wooden walls. Darkwood or Finewood walls would be impeccable! Ancient wood needs some crafting outlets. A whole visual wood style around Ancient wood would be so lovely. Yggdrasil trim also comes to mind :D
Food/Mead/Cooking:
  • Food Que - So when i'm making 50 Boar jerky I can not get carpal tunnel.
  • Food variety: More Jerky! Especially Jerky... It is very good to help balance stats.
  • Let us add animal meats to dishes to boost HP. or Honey/berries to dishes for boost to Stamina. Small boosts. so food's low stat is 1/2 instead of 1/3 main stat.
  • Meadery/Bait chopping block: The time for these items to become their stations is NOW. Such clutter in my cauldron :(
  • Food Visibility: Make most foods look good as a decor. Bowl of blueberries. Cooked Neck.

    Inventory Improvement
This is maybe the number one demand by the community... I have a suggestion recently posted, but we really do need something... Anything! There's so many items now with new mobs in biomes, new biome, and added uses for previously decor only items... I like a tiered crafting solution, personally. But I am not picky.

It is still early access and the inventory system is probably the most improvable/iterate-able system in game, including combat.

Throw some improvements to the kiln and furnace as well, like increased capacity and smelting speed. We already spend a good deal of time gathering and transporting metals, then having to babysit the structures on top of that is just ridiculous for a game thats supposed to be about adventuring and conquering lol.

Replace all the times you said 'need' with 'want' and it changes the tone of all this.

But I would agree on some of these points. It would be *nice* to have some expanded options in building materials, more recipes are always good, and more 'silver fork' hybrid recipes like jerky especially (we missed a jerky tier in the plains AND the mistlands so far)

I like most of what you suggested, and I am especially in favor of moving fermenting recipes to the fermenter and fishing bait recipes to... somewhere, maybe a new tackle box crafting station or something, but not the chopping block as that only becomes available with silver - far too late in the progression for fishing supplies, in my opinion.

food queue is definitely needed.

i have a feeling some homesteading tasks take longer just to keep home players busy. some multiplayer teams divide the domestic and the exploration, and if you could just one-click everything at home, it would kind of invalidate that role.

but yeah, i cooked like over 200 honey glazed chicken and meat platters today, and it was mind-numbing.

New building materials and food are inevitable, I think.

I don't really mass produce food or anything else myself at this time, only thing I ever felt like I could have used some automation for is iron smelting, so I can't really relate to that, but queuing of some sort could probably be useful for players with controllers or some kind of accessibility issues.
