1. I have only parked the boat in Meadows, Black Forest and Plains. If parking the boat in the Swamp it's just asking for it.
2. I 90% of the time smack down a workbench and repair the ship and kill the enemies around if there are any before leaving the area.
If I am far away from the boat the time freezes where the boat is and the only damage that may have occur is from bouncing on a rock or the sea floor.
But sins I have an Workbench there when i come back I always repair if needed before sailing again.
3. If i am in the area but not seeing the boat i always pay attention to the any crackling sound from the boat.
So I can't understand why people have problem with this.
The boat will anchor itself in water as soon as you leave the boat where ever you are.
Even sailing at full speed in the middle of the ocean and jumping off the boat, the boat will stop. ( When playing Solo )
No mods, vanilla game. Maybe the problem is I'm trying to keep the boat close to my camp so I can fend off those darklings that spawn endlessly and try to break things. Thing is, I'm only trying to spend the night so I can keep sailing the next morning, which means running hundreds of meters into the dark unknown isn't really an option.
I can think of an number of problem.
1. The current mechanism that keep the boat from stopping and stay put as soon as you leave it will no longer work. Oh crap I accidentally push the jump botton and ended up in the sea. Bye bye boat bye bye loot.
2. There is no tree nearby to tie my rope around. I have to smack down a pole and enemies start swarming because you making loud noices. Or dropping the iron anchor with a big splash, same results.
3. Enemies will no longer try to smash the boat. They simply cut the rope or destroy the anchor if that is easier and boat drift away.
