The game is designed, I asume, this way so that you progress to the next biome to get better tools and food so you can last a long while.
Once you start killing sea serpents and loxs then everything is sorted.
and then bread .
and then light armour.
have you tried building in your birthday suit , maybe you will be lighter so can go longer.
i presume you use rasberries or honey is better.
once you get iron and start making sausages you are getting realy fit then.
Is it always raining in your swamps?
Can you survive without eating any food?
Game mechanics need to have a purpose beside annoying the player. Maybe you could argue that it creates tense situations where you can get overwhelmed by... random enemy spawns inside your base while planting seeds? Or you just admit that it's a pointless mechanic.
How about this:
Imagine if building and planting didn't drain stamina, do you really think there would be threads springing up demanding for that to happen?
"It's in the game" is about as mindless of an excuse as "actually, my realism tho!"
Would be nice if some "g4m3r5" could keep their masochistic tendencies where they don't bother anyone.
Granted, stamina systems aren't everyone's cup of tea, but it's also disingenuous to say it's universally reviled. There are items in the game, at the player's discretion to obtain and use, that make stamina drain when building trivial.
I'm not personally bothered by the stamina system, but I am planning my builds out ahead of time, using stamina-boosting foods when I build, and wearing the specialty clothes you can pick up from Hildir.
If playing within the boundaries of the game isn't sufficient, then I'm certain there are console commands - or mods - that will alleviate the issue.
Personally I think the stamina system is totally fine. But my question is still:
What does building and planting requiring stamina add to the experience?
I'm aware that there are solutions to the problem but why does the problem have to exist to begin with? As it stands it's just wasting time and the solutions just waste time in another way.
I'll give an example about an annoying mechanic in games that has a purpose:
Hit rating/chance
The standard solution is usually a trade off between this and other stats like damage, so you can either ignore it and be inconsistent but stronger, or you focus on it and become consistent but weaker.
But in this case your only choice is to waste time in one way or another way (or waste slightly less) while adding no interesting situations or decisions.
I've never struggled with stamina enough to quit, but it's an annoyance that comes up literally every time something more ambitious than a place to sleep is constructed, so again I ask, why?
What does this add? And please no "realism" or "but it's in the game" non-argumets. I sincerely want to know what this mechanic is doing to enhance anyone's experience.
Having said this, I think your point is well taken. I'd be willing to suffer larger stamina penalty if the hoe would actually do perfect leveling based on a set cornerstone.
I love the hoe, but I don't like how complex it is just to level ground where I want it. And unlimited stamina would not solve this issue.
I do think you have a point for quick building tasks.
