Well, you do have climate zones. You can't plant palm trees in Sweden, at least not in nature. Compare it to crop fertility mechanics. You can plant BF and meadows trees in the plains though, don't know if that makes sense particularly for the pine trees. As the plains clearly have a warmer climate than the Scandinavian BF.
But I'm on board with the idea of having them dropping seeds at least. At the very least you should be able to plant ancient trees in the swamp and yggdrasil trees in the ML. Especially the latter as you use ygg wood a lot more than ancient bark(dvergr stairs...). The exact biome configuration for each tree is a different matter, that could be thought out further. Perhaps you should be able to plant ygg trees in BF but not in plains, or something among those lines.
