Official Valheim Servers.
This notion has been occupying my thoughts lately. Ponder the potential financial gains Irongate could amass by establishing sanctioned Valheim servers that come with a price tag.
While I acknowledge that this scenario is highly improbable and akin to a personal aspiration, envisioning Valheim with public servers akin to those found in World of Warcraft, for instance, sparks enthusiasm within me. I would willingly commit $20 or possibly more each month for such a service. My concern with private servers stems from the prevalence of rampant cheating; thus, I believe they should be sustained and overseen by legitimate administrators on the Irongate payroll. Nonetheless, I must reiterate that this remains nothing more than a cherished reverie.

Sorry to disappoint, but there'll never be official Valheim servers. The game is build around self-hosting. Also, the devs don't plan on turning Valheim into a MMORPG.

However, advanced settings for server owners are planned for the future. You can find the related Megathread here.

I've added this thread to the Popular Community Suggestions so it's more obvious now.

Have a nice day!

1) this is a troupe game, meant for playing with people you already know and trust

2) there's no controls to manage griefing / cheating or to enforce honesty, because point number 1

1) Make friends somewhere
2) Drag them kicking and screaming to Valheim server you created
3) Kick their asses so hard they quit being friends

Step 3 is optional and will likely require starting again at step 1.

Official servers would require the players pay a monthly subscription fee to pay for servers and maintenance (just like the MMOs do it).

Your options are to pay a service to host for you, use an extra computer and your own internet service to host your own dedicated server, or (if your computer is high end enough) use your computer to both host a server and play in it at the same time.

For option 3 if you don't want to leave your personal server up 100% of the time you'll have to set a schedule of play times up with your friends, start the server before play time starts, and then stop the server at the agreed upon time.

Public Servers
Is there any plans to have public servers for this game?
esbenmf 10 JUN 2024 a las 9:02 a. m.
No. This is no mmo, and why should Valheim pay for your server?
Serious 10 JUN 2024 a las 9:07 a. m.
What would be the point in those?

Public servers without passwords.
I think creators of the game should add a button that can create a public server where everyone who wants can join.

Literally almost every other survival game like this does it, and they do it free. Ark, Conan Exiles, Dark and Light, Novus Inceptio, are all the ones I've played, and this is the first game I've seen that didn't offer official servers. I'll also add that offering servers does not make it an MMO, as they usually host about 30 people per server. That makes it "Multiplayer" and not "Massively Multiplayer".
