Would "Village" building fit this game well?
I see lots of abandoned villages and houses in this game so I was just thinking that perhaps being able to create your own villages that either attract wandering vikings or having to rescue other vikings would be a decent idea. Would definitely improve the RPG aspect for being a village chief.

Just to clarify it is not just a simple gimmick, the viking villagers can also be assigned roles such defense, farming, hunting, etc. Could even go as far as being able to use teleporters freely if directed to do so.

maybe. The empty village buildings are too small for much, even the larger ones are not big enough for all the stuff to get all the crafting stations + all the rested buff items + functional storage. Splitting it into one building per thing does not work well either because everything needs a bench and a forge and stonecutter and all nearby (you can move around and delete them after but spreading out is a big aggravation) and more buildings means a bigger area to defend (that might be fun, but it may also result in days of rebuilding) ...

there are groups of humans that make the village idea work well. But building up for a group of AI ... its a tough sell with the current game.

im about to do the exact opposite

the little dot on the most left foundation (near the ocean) is my viking
i plan to place some more structures there

but i snapped workbenches into the foundation walls
i keep the area open for easy defending had no issues so far
i know that raids are after the player so i move outside in case a raid happens
in my experience (solo only) nothing was destroyed

so yeah, villages are making sense but first one needs to narrow down the spawns in the area and maybe place some defense
no matter how small or big one builds - always keep in mind to move away from the builds in case of a raid

i n my case i will cover the buildings in sharp stakes and set my "battlefield" in the center of my village, so weaker enemys may grind themselves on the sharp stakes

Its not the raids, those are announced. Even with only 4 buildings in use in my D-village rebuild, I occasionally get like 1 or 2 GD bashing some outer structure on the opposite side of where I am working and don't see/hear it at first. One took down a couple of wall tiles before I got to it, and a couple more died but did serious damage to a beehive another day. I have a persistent fear that a log troll is going to wander by at random and break a whole structure before I notice :)

I may put up some spike walls or something to keep it under control. Its still a fairly new attempt, in progress.

Would be neat actually. Build a village or castle find lost vikings and give them a bed.

Get some soldiers to fight and maybe get a little help on resource gathering. Nothing much but perhaps you comeback from an adventure and you find more turnips than when you left. In the kitchen.
