Valheim
NPCs "for hire"
Threads are being created suggesting the addition of NPCs "for hire" (similar to the Villagers in Minecraft).

There will not be NPCs "for hire" in Valheim.

In regards to quest giving NPCs: Hildir's Quest will be added in the future, confirming the addition of another quest giving NPC similar to Haldor and Hugin.

Companions and NPCs
In my opinion, this game really need some companions. Just having other warriors with a basic snap system that allow them to just instant sit or stand up on our boats, or teleport to our location if too far away (like using the Portals). Or maybe it is just me desperate for some company. Even if it's just one or two companion maximum, I think it's going to be an amazing addition, especially for the ones that build beautiful houses and camps. I have seen too many communities rise and fall, each time I log into our servers were we've spent days gathering and building our camps, and see it deserted it makes me sad. And ultimately the server shuts down, as there is no point in renting anymore.

Those NPCs could have a simple predefined set of classes, like warrior (sword+ shield) or archer (bow+ arrows). Or a more advanced RPG like system, allowing us player to decide what those NPCs will wear and thus define what role they are going to be. Creatures path finding is really good now, wolves and enemies can use stairs and enter our buildings, so I don't think having those NPCs stuck somewhere is a problem. If the terrain is not transformed in sharp cliff of course.

However, now that I writing those lines, each time I find an abandoned village, I think of those as our camps, were players used to gather and have a vibrant life in there, before vanishing into nothingness.

Yea from my experience the human companions that you can play with tend to have terrible AI.

You are not kidding. My friends are dying constantly to falling trees, their pathing is terrible, and they keep using bukeperries recreationally.
Enemies can use stairs now?
I've not seen any do this so far, dies this now happen in New Worlds after H&H?
Oh, yeah, I'd definitely like to see npc wandering about, or set up someplace. Not looking for npc quests, but would be nice to invite them to stay at our builds.
System could scan and determine likelihood of them staying.

There are nice mods for that, sadly they need several other mods to work, thats why until now i dont use them

and some tame mods

Yeah,I've seen people talking about mods that add NPCs, but like you said you need multiple mods and from what I've heard some of those mods don't work because of the last update, it's kind of scare me that I invest myself only for the game not to work anymore after X or Y update. However, I might give it a try one day or later is companions are not on the roadmap for Valheim

:))
would be nice to at least post guards, like archers on top of towers, or a dude or two to guard a base entrance/gate.
Only problem is that NPCs from the Friendlies mod really do a number on my framerate, even with just 10 or so NPCs I get -20 fps
Of course proper NPCs made by the devs might be less costly but I would say if they do it it's probably better if they do it towards the end of development, after the optimization work has been mostly done

Weird how Diablo, a game that came out 3 decades ago has henchmen but not this? Maybe they simply lack coders with AI-skills?

Still baffles me how games keep adding "Single Player" when there is not single player to be had. Steam should get tougher on that.

I think I will wait for the Viking Mod for Bannerlord. For the actual Viking feeling :).
I "think" the coders for an indie/EA game intended up to 10 friends or a real solo "Viking Feeling" by making the game über realistic and a challenge in the vein of DS2. caveat emptor: git gud it's just Minecraft with awesome ships and better mods.

Did you really just necro a thread to say that to people who probably don't play anymore?
This would definitely be a nice option to have in one form or another.

Personally i would enjoy having NPC's you could hire, then assign them to (one) or more sets of chests with the necessary materials to refill all the torch stands, fire pits, sconces, smelters, kilns etc.

Also an NPC you could hire to assign the task of mining Copper Nodes.

I love this game in fact the 1,164 hours i have so far says that clearly, but i have to admit mining Copper becomes a chore after so many times of doing it.

Please understand this is NOT a complaint, i love the game i really do but i agree with the general sentiment that the game can feel lonely at times. =)
