Planting / Farming berry bushes, mushrooms, etc.
According to the devs, planting & farming berries / mushrooms / thistles / etc. will not be added to Valheim.

They want players to go out into the world to find & discover new things, while experiencing the feeling of successful foraging through pickable wild resources.

This is a Megathread. Threads with similar topics will get merged with it.

Berries are no problem, they're in large groups and highly visible. It's the dang mushrooms that drive me up the wall. Unlike berries they're only present in small numbers, rare to find more than four at a time. Plus they can be incredibly difficult to spot. In fact it's not unusual for them to be outright invisible because of ferns and logs spawning on top of them. It's true I could mark them on a map, but cluttering it up with fifteen symbols each of which only lead to two or three mushrooms isn't ideal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but cultivating mushrooms isn't exactly nuclear age technology either.

You need to turn off one of the settings that shows grass( can't recall the name ), it is a major game changer when playing a no-mod, makes seeing them super easy. Along with twigs, and stones.

On a personal note, i actual like that some resources are not farmable, so you have to do some foraging (and foraging was a really important thing for thousands of years up until the very recent age)

As stated above, turn the foilage to minimum.
It used to look very ugly (basically a simple green mesh) but nowdays it doesnt look bad and still gives you a ton of visuality.

You just mark every cluster you found on a map with a single mark, give a name, bamm, done.
I use dots as mark and RB, BB, Shroom as tags, easy to do, easy to read.

Also mushrooms arent that rare and you can find huge clusters in the black forest as well.
Since now you need the blueberries for the speed pot, you can (and probably should) mark them on your map in both biomes, which would give you as much as you want.

Not to mention that with the latest Bogwitch update, picking up shrooms and berries is considered farming, so you can level your skill up superfast (and buy the hildir set for another +25 farming) which gives you a very noticable chance for yielding extra when picking them up.

On my current run, the trader spawned in a very large black forest (while the starting island had really ♥♥♥♥♥ forest), marked a butload of berries.
A 10 minute run around is yielding around 120 blue berries. 30-40 shrooms (wasnt looking for them that much) and 50-60 thistle and havent explored half of the forest still properly.

I'm with HunApo here. I love taking a break and exploring the meadows and Black Forest for lower level materials. Every time you pass up red mushrooms without picking them up... god smacks a kitten. I think having items that are forage only encourages and rewards exploration.

I am going to have to pass more mushrooms, don't need them once i get to black forest, nor do i have room for them by that time. with deer/boar meat, R/B Berries, Honey, mushrooms kind of start to lose their value.

I use mods to plant everything and I still am fond of exploration.

Yup, i don't think mushrooms/berries, are the only reason to explore, and if it is the only reason for some, then well, i politely disagree with them, plenty of reasons to explore an area, Landscapes, uncover the map, scouting for a nice location(s), just to do it, but to just forage? I can't see that being the main reason.

You'll need a lot of them after you reach the mountains. Make a storage shed! :gmhusky:

Farming - Berries, Shrooms and Thistles - o my!
As the title suggests, can we please, be able to farm everything....? Forcing us to go out and run around till we find what we need is so basic...That's what early humans did - until they learned how to farm for what they needed instead of constantly foraging.

Nope.
hallenyoyo 2024 年 10 月 30 日 上午 10:29
I would say at least give us a skill like farming to increase the yield. I would have hoped that farming also affected Barries

Create a modifier allowing for the planting of all crops.
Allowing the planting of crops such as Blueberries, Raspberries, Thistle, ect.... This would dramatically improve the QoL for many players as it gives them the simple option for freedom within agriculture while leaving the base game the same. I am aware there is mods currently but the mods are unreliable.
