But regarding the OP, I'm not sure exactly what problem you're bringing up. Getting fish is too slow/unreliable? I stack up fish very quickly when fishing. Best suggestion I have is to hold M1 for no more than about a half second, 10m or less is a good cast range, otherwise you'll run out of stamina reeling them in. When you think a big one is directly under your bobber, tap (don't hold) M2 to see if it hooks. If it doesn't, you can keep waiting with your bobber around the same spot. If it does hook, then hold M2 to reel it in.
Edit: Also, bringing a stack of wood with you to build a temporary pier will make everything easier.
Yes, I said that wrong. I do use bread for non-combat stamina activities because fish are a minor effort to gather, and that is why I confused myself. Apologies.
I re-examined this and I think one of the issues is figuring out a reliable way to get the higher fish count fish. One meat per fish is not good return on time spent. You frequently get up to 4, but you have to find the bigger ones for that... is there a trick to that or just RNG?
If you look closely, I believe there are 3 different sized fish swimming around...a 1x, 2x and 4x. I don't think there's a way to get one to bite over another, but once you figure out the 1 x you could reel your line in a bit before it strikes so it misses. Probably not worth the effort...at least for me...I'm not a fan of fishing.
Lox meat is just a joke to farm.
Leeches feel pretty easy as well.
Entire game day im lucky if i can hit 2 decent holes. And daytime sunny is the only decent time really. And finding a decent spot to begin with as they are random.
Sometimes those big ones just swim around your hook for 5 plus minutes with no bites. Then you get waves, and mob aggro.
