Paddles for boating without wind
I do realize that sailing is a feature that supposed to bring some difficulty into exploration process. But inability to craft paddles is ridiculous.
You may add paddles to smaller boat and make it operated by single person and balanced by stamina drain. And you may add paddles to bigger boats and make them operated by 2/4/6 people, not counting the steering guy. And in case of a bigger boat you may even turn it into tempo-minigame where rowers supposed to stay in same tempo and act simultaniously, so they literally has to go into voice chat and start counting out loud.
Please make paddles happen. It feels like game is simply missing them. We're able to build complicated structures and ships but unable to craft a stick with a board at one end. And Drakkar is even equipped with benches and paddle holes, but they're not functional. This make no sense.

Your ship can be sculled at a ridiculously fast pace using solely the rudder as a oar. Your complaint makes no sense to me.

It's ridiculously fast comparing to a full stop, maybe. In general it's rather annoyingly slow. Paddles can be faster and make losing wind less frustrating. It's not like I'm asking for motorboating. Also I can't remember any rowing championship utilizing rudder. People naturally prefer paddles for moving their boats since it's more efficient and can be done in a group (key factor here). When I discovered that I'm able to use rudder for rowing my genuine reaction was like: "Who is even going to mess with it if they can have paddles instead?" And in case of a big ship that absence of paddles is complete waste of gameplay ... Let's assume I'm a steering guy at Drakkar traveling with 4 other players onboard. We lose wind and now the only pesron who's able to row is me, steering guy. And 4 others players have to sit and wait and can't do anything. Meanwhile they could row together and help us all. It's kind of coop game after all and we're losing opportunity here. Seriously, making players sit and wait is not what you want to do unless your game is idle simulator.

I'm a whitewater kayaker, so i understand paddling. A solo man would fail at paddling a long ship, that's why the sculling is done via the central rudder method. Long ships used oars in locks to row; and an even number of people were needed to row, not paddle. it requires patience to be a Viking. Maybe all players should bring a ship to relieve their short attention span fatigue? ;D

My problem is not a ship that moves too slowly, or fails to keep me occupied while i'm a passenger aboard. My problem is a ship i can't sleep on that gets stranded halfway across the globe every time the nvwgf2umx.dll causes a Crash To Desktop.

Perhaps a rowing option will one day be implemented. Now, how many players have the first idea how to synchronize their oar strokes? Boy, will that learning curve be entertaining!

That's literally what I've meant for Drakkars. At this point I assume I'm using wrong term since I'm not english guy and Google Translate tells me that oar and paddle is the same thing used the same way. In my language we have only one word for it.

Terminology aside your idea may have merit for multiplayer, but a good sailor is seldom stopped by wind direction for long. I've sailed a few real sailboats, and you can always get to where you want to go, but may travel farther than you like to get there. I only scull for short distances to reach specific points nearby. GG!

I think oars should be only for the Longboat and the potential bigger one.
The rudder push is perfectly ok for the Raft n Karve imo. (maybe 1 set of oars on the karve)
But definitely would be good if implemented so the more hands you have the faster you go.. but obviously not as fast as having the sails down.
