Pet Feeders
I think introducing a pet feeder would fit perfectly. Basically something like a trough that you can fill with food instead of dropping items on the ground.

Speaking of dropping items on the ground - did I miss the memo saying how to do that with any sort of precision? The best I've seen is to bounce the item off an obstruction.

Move your character in the direction you wanna throw first. Just spinning the camera isnt enough. Then just Ctrl + Left click. Be sure to be touching the fence or window (i throw my stuff through the window from the storage sometimes)

Pet feeders would be really nice, +1

My Add-on to this is make animals bread only with one type of food.
Boars - Yellow Mushrooms, Wolves - Deer Meat, etc.
this way you can feed them to get their health up without them breeding (maybe implement pets dying after being hungry for like a week of in-game days), this would help to balance the number of pets you can have as you will need to be able to feed them on a regular basis.

you can probably build something. Slope a roof tile or two into a box(floor tile, 1 unit high walls or even beams for walls?) You can do this for your smelter/coal/etc stuff as well, to have it collect in a bin. Pointless but it looks nice if done carefully.

When you smelt metals, they have "just to fall", so ok, you add a roof tile, creating a slope, it works.
Problem is animals, to the other side, have to "find" the food you throw: I'm getting crazy experimenting the various ways to feed my boars. They seem unable to find every food I put forward to them.

So, absolutely +1 (and +100 if possible) to animals feeders: some place where they go for sure, a tool where they can "link in" and just eat.

P.S.
my problems come only from the way I'm feeding them, as I'm doing from atop a tower I built. As far as I was feeding them at ground, I had no problems... but even far slower production too.

I'd love feeders, maybe with 2 - 4 slots. Would be nice if they only accepted the food items that each animal actually eats ( so have a boar feeder / wolf feeder / lox feeder). It would solve both the issue of throwing food precisely, especially in smaller pens, and of accidentally picking everything back up if you walk inside the pen the next day.
I have both boar/wolf pens and boar/wolf breeding towers. The pens are 2 x 2 fenced or dug pits. Accurate throwing of food isn't an issue at all. In this size pen a pair of adult boars and 6 pieces of feed will normally produce 3 piggies in short order. Two adult wolves and 4 hunks of deer/neck/boar will pop out 2 wolf cubs. In a base there may have 4 of the pens for each species separated by several meters. Since the adults will not reproduce if there are too many of their species nearby this seems to work well for me. My factory style breeding towers do have issues with food placement and it took a while before I got the technique down. Since the towers are elevated far above the much larger holding pens there is no problems with proximity shutting down their fertility. I'll toss a 50 stack of carrots in front of each boar and likewise with the wolves and they will breed, breed, breed to the point of killing my framerate lol. How does 10fps sound to you? That was about 200 boars. The slaughter-fest to get back to 60fps was almost nauseating :steamhappy:
Nowadays I'll reduce the food stack size and harvest the animals regularly to keep fps reasonable. Because they won't breed if the player isn't in the area you can let them pop out a bunch of piggies or wolf cubs then go off on an adventure then come back to be greeted by adult critters.
Although the breeding towers are a neat idea, fun to build and can crank out a bunch of stuff I think I prefer the small individual pens/pits. And the pits seem better able to keep the animals inside. My playstyle is to have most of my bases completely independent and fully upgraded so a single source for mega-quantities of food, etc. isn't necessary.
I haven't tamed any lox yet so that will be fun to work up an efficient process.

That's nice and all, but just because it works for you doesn't mean other people can't suggest features that would fit their playstyle.

Why not make one yourself with the materials provided in game?
Nefrarya Mar 20, 2022 @ 2:16pm
Because this sub-forum is for making suggestions to the devs, if I'm not sorely mistaken. Yes, I know how to effectively breed with the mechanics the game is currently offering. But this feature would make my life with my playstyle easier, so why not throw the idea out there and see if it gains traction?

Where is this urge to shut down collective brainstorming coming from?

I missed the part where anybody was shutting you down unless, of course, not agreeing with you is defined as shutting you down. Time to ditch this thread......

We're not that naive, believe me: it's just my opinion, but I had the very same feelings at Nefrarya. The fact something is working for you doesn't prevent I had to get crazy two days, to find a way to feed my boars and wolves and, still, it's just mostly a matter of luck, due to tech limitations (the way buildings are made, AND the way food searching is), not our (players) limits, as I placed the food exactly in front of their nose but they wasn't seeing it anyway.

All above said, it seems to me that asking for a "feeder" seems "reasonable", nothing we ask 'cause we're just lazy.
Nefrarya Mar 20, 2022 @ 11:54pm
It's one thing to say "Personally, I don't need that feature", and it's another to say "it's unnecessary, don't ask for it". If there is really an in-game way of doing exactly what someone has suggested and they just missed it? Cool, tell them (nicely!). But that doesn't apply here where people have been really specific about what they'd like from a feeder item.

In a suggestions forum, people get to ask for everything, doesn't matter if it's too far out there or they are being lazy or *whatever*. By all means, disagree. But you don't need to police this forum to protect the devs from "unnecessary" requests. I'm pretty sure they are perfectly capable of sorting through this.
