Cartography table and map markers
On our server, we are loving the Cartography Table. Having a shared map encourages us to spread out and explore everywhere, since it can now be a group effort. However, our shared map is rapidly becoming cluttered with map markers.

While there is an option to right-click a marker type on the map to show/hide it, and there is an option on the map to show/hide Cartography Table data from other players, it would be nice to have a little flexibility in showing/hiding map markers from other players. I'd love to have the granularity to have toggles for "show me house icons from me/others", "show me fire icons from me/others", and so on, even just a global setting for "show/hide map markers from others" would be helpful. That way, we could still see the map exploration/reveal from other players, without it being completely obscured by markers from 10 players.

I only play solo. I do not have a cartography table much less this problem. I can imagine some of the problems which might arise.

I am the only one mapping my world and putting markers on my map. My map still gets cluttered. To relieve the clutter, I have adapted some proactices:

I use markers sparingly. I only mark berry bushes if there are at least five or six in a cluster.
If such a cluster is in visual range of a base, I don't mark it all all.

I delete some markers when they are no longer useful. I will mark abandoned huts containing beehives, clusters of tin deposits, copper deposits and silver deposits. Once I have collected the queen bee from the hive or mined all the tin, copper, or silver, I delete the marker.

I use abbreviations in labels; BC for burial chamber, TC for troll cave, RB for raspberries, BB for blueberries and so on.

If I were playing with a group, I would definitely want the group to agree upon standardizing some form of these practices.

Two additional policies I would want group agreement on once the cartography table is built are:

Only the person first constructing a camp, house, or base may mark it on his or her map.
Others must wait until returning to the cartography table, to add it through the shared map.

As soon as the cartography table is built and everyone shares their individual maps, the group should meet to remove all duplicate markers and labels. Such a meeting should be repeated every time an individual shares an updated map.

If some other nitwit, I mean one of my esteemed friends, in the group mistakenly violates convention, the others should civilly remind him or her of the agreed policies and have him or her make the appropriate correction.

The cartography table can be a great boon to a group but the group has to use it as a group.

There is a way to get the explored map without markers. I did this once with a friend and I was confused as I didn't see his markers after getting his explored map, upon a second recording of his map and then retrieving again I got his markers. Will need to confirm how to repeat this result as not sure what we did different. Unless it was a random bug. Maybe try play with that cartography table setting when you open map as you record and retrieve map info
