Help me connect to an xbox player please

So I can't find my friends world. He has community server checked and a password. I search for his server name and it doesn't show. I also have the Xbox app installed on my PC with him and I in voice chat and that works fine. I even have my steam account linked to my Microsoft account. I can see he's playing the game but when I try to join it it sends me to the Microsoft store to buy the game. I already own the game do I have to buy it again from the Microsoft store?

For Xbox console and PC gamepass players (game bought on MS store or Xbox PC app) crossplay has to be enabled on the server by the host, or else the mentioned platform won't see the server. If you friend is far away from your geo location, you might not be able to see the server in the community list. The best way to access the server, is to add it to your favorites list by entering join code that the host can provide once they connect into the world and open pause menu to see the code. Only servers hosted with crossplay can be connected by the join code, and in other cases you will have to use IP on invite system if you are playing on the same platform.

There are additional problems that can happen when one tries to access crossplay servers (VPN, not having PlayFab packages on PC), so tell me if you notice that you can reach password prompt for Steam server in the community tab (only have key icon), but you can't reach password prompt for crossplay servers (have key icon and arrows icon next to their name).
