What happens when you not choose a server but a local world you created? Are you using completely new characters or have you used these in a local world (with mods)?
Are you using antivirus software or other "helpers"?
You can also go here and see if any other solution might help. https://steamcommunity.com/app/892970/discussions/1/3154202776531668586/
I should have included that, yes all drivers and windows up to date.
Not using any mods, just the vanilla version.
I was trying on local servers, not my dedicated.
It's a pretty clean system, no AV other than the Windows 10 Security.
Plenty of restarts, reboots, power down, etc.. and this problem is post the 4/11 patch.
Thanks,
Also tried creating a new character and a new world and nope, crash on load.
What is the version number of your Valheim installation? What is happening when you connect to a dedicated server. You indicated having one.
I have the same issues connecting to the dedicated server, which is a service I'm paying for, and I did update that one as well, so both are on the current version - the 4/11/22 patch.
It's given me a BSOD for Memory Management twice now. No other program is doing this, and I did a full hardware test, everything came out fine, so it really feels like it's something with the game.
In case you haven't already, can you run the Driver Verifier app to see if there are conflicting drivers. You can alternatively use another app that does this.

Perhaps even try re-seating your RAM sticks.
In case you might not know this, BSOD is always hardware related whether that be a driver issue or directly the hardware itself. If you're getting BSOD because of Valheim, it's most likely Valheim is triggering an already existing issue in your PC. Just because no other game you've played have triggered a BSOD, doesn't mean you don't have an existing problem. It just means those other games aren't running scripts that is triggering the problem.
This is actually a good thing, because it's a direct way of showing you that you have a PC problem. Which means you can fix it now, before it gets worst. Of course, one could argue that if you never run Valheim, then the problem will most likely never come back up. True, but that doesn't brush aside that a problem still exist. It's just a matter of time.
It's like cancer. Just because you ignore it, or you don't feel any bad symptoms, doesn't mean it went away. I mean, well, it's possible, since illnesses are sometimes 'cured' by the 'miracles' of the universe...
I ran the driver verifier and while it ran sluggish, with some popping and crackling audio, I didn't get a BSOD or crash. But I only ran it for maybe half an hour.
I also ran the memory diagnostic and that came back clean as well. It's an Alienware, so I ran all the hardware utilities and they came back clean, RAM, GPU, CPU, SSD.
I have the extended service, but they are very particular before sending someone out. However, I know I have a swollen battery that I'm getting replaced, so maybe that battery shifted something. At least I'll have a tech here in a few days, and maybe they'll see something that's causing a problem.
If a BSOD is either driver or hardware related, then at least it pinpoints it to my system, and not the game. I think only one other person said they had a similar issue, so I think your assessment, that Valheim isn't the problem, but that it's accessing and triggering the problem, seems like it's probably and unfortunately right.
I could always do a fresh windows install - I never keep much on my system, and it's a solid state drive, so that process is never really too tedious.
Thanks for the feedback!
As an extended note, quite a few players reinstalled their Windows and that fixed their BSOD and Valheim crashing problem.
I wish I know exactly what the in-game script is that triggers the BSOD though. If this can be pinpointed, at least then the devs that use the Unity Engine can try to mitigate this in the future.
Good to know, that will probably be my go to this weekend. I'll post an update here if it fixes the issue. A clean install of Windows --> Driver Updates --> Steam --> Valheim.
Thank god for SSDs right?
All drivers up to date, windows up to date etc etc
It just hangs with blue spinning windows circle and stops responding the moment I try to load into the game.
edit: this happens on both normal mode and vulcan mode.
