Valheim

Valheim

increasing lags inside base the longer I play (increased things insde the base)
Greetings.
I like this game so far and play it modded.
After setting up a base with a house, 3 animal pens and a larger field and a stone wall around it beside the shore I have now an increasing lag that makes it very uncomfortable to be inside my base.

Is there an option to reduce the lags to the normal, no lag, option outside my base or is this just Valheim?

Did the devs mention any further optimization for this problem or will that be it?
Oh we can be pretty sure that they will optimize the game further. YOu should keep in mind that this is super early, early access. The game might be only 50-60% feature complete.

In game development.. optimizing the code mostly happens at the end once it's feature complete. Otherwise they would get spaghetti code some games are known for.

Also knowing some specs of your computer also could at least help us figuring out if it's game related or computer related.

I mean... there are a lot of people with toasters expecting games to launch.

Why is that interesting which GPU and CPU I use?
Because one system will suffer a significant performance hit from X instances, while another would only suffer a small hit.

If your system is an i7-7700K with a GTX 1070 running at 4k resolution, I would expect 7500 instances to have a significant impact on your performance, but if you have a Ryzen 9 5950X with an RTX 3090, running at 1080 resolution, I wouldn't expect much of a change.

So, my question is an attempt to obtain more context for whether what you're experiencing is common or uncommon.

putting ♥♥♥♥ in chests, still have an impact on performance.
Really? Bleh. I'd been tearing down stacks of wood, stone, and coins, and putting them in chests in hopes of improving my framerate. :-/
I hope you are right TyresTyco. I like this game so far. It is beside Kenshi one of very few games I play at the moment. The rest is so far meh.
I just hope for more content and features that mods already offer (like CLLC, Epic Loot, BuildIt, MassFarming, PlanBuild, Forgotten Biomes, More Skills, Equipment and Quick Slots, Quick Store and so on).

I7 6400 @3,4
GTX1070
16 Gb RAM

Up until now I had no problem with current games in form of lags or performance issues and I could play all of them on the highest setting.

But I start with 6k to 6,5k instances already on a fresh map. But when what Ryzilynt said is true the stacking option of CLLC and the chest mod for more room in them could be the actual problem 4x8 for normal chests and 10k stack size.
And I love to farm, gather, smelt, generate charcoal and set up/print up building for these purposes.
So in the end it could be a combination of the flaws of the source code and the modded stuff.
And, what framerates do you get? Both for the high, that you like, and the low that you don't.
What resolution do you use?
I have begun recently to have the same problem. My son originally leased the server I play on, and we played multiplayer for a long time. While he was constructing our base, he was always complaining about very low fps & the lag resulting from it. I was not having a problem at all (we both have exactly the same gaming computers). Which is the opposite of what is expected. The owner and individual who opens and logs into the server first is supposed to have higher ping & better fps. Now he has basically quit, I took over the server rental, play solo and the lag is now killing my game. All my graphics setting are set to lowest. I used to be at 60 fps outside our base, and 29-33 inside, now I am 12-20 outside and 5-12 inside playing solo.
resolution 2560x1440
All setting to highest possible without vsync. I am using G-Sync and no motion blurr.
On the new map I have 35 to 40 fps outside, around 30fps in base and on the old map I have 5 fps in base and 60 outside of it.
5 FPS is lower than I would have expected given what you've written above... I was expecting closer to 15 FPS based on your hardware compared to mine.

So, there might be more going on than merely the number of instances. Do you have screenshots of your old base that you can share so that we can see if anything obvious strikes us?
This game engine confuse me alot.
I mean if you look at it can handle alot of information going on.
Big waves, Thunderstorms, Mist, Swaying trees, Wet light conditions and a whole lot of trees in the same area.

But if oneself start to add things more and more the FPS is going down in a very steep curve
even if the size of it does not even compare when running around in a leafy meadow forest.

Hm... never had a FPS problem... the biggest difference would be that I use 64 GB - RAM instead of your 16. And I have a GTX 2080 Super.
Prozessor Ryzen 7 3800X...

No mods

I have about the same configuration RTX 2080 ti, I9900K, 64 GB Ram, 2560X1440
But when hitting 11-12000 instances it drops down alot around 20-35 FPS
If you feel like it you can go into my profile and look at the pictures. Sins i use Rivatuner the FPS is desplayed in the upper right corner.

Maybe I haven't progressed far enough yet... to have problems. Your profile is private, so I can't see screenshots.
I initially ran this game on a lower-end computer with an old GPU, was averaging about 32FPS at the time and it would drop down to 11-13FPS whenever I would be near somewhere I had terraformed a lot. I learned not to change the ground unless I absolutely had to but even then, my village bases would see me average about 16FPS. I avoided being in the mountains during a blizzard because my FPS would drop to the point I couldn't move. I have a new machine now but there's still a big drop in FPS whenever I am in built-up areas, stone or wood, it doesn't matter.
