Linux: Game crashes on Alt-Tab
The most recent patch causes the game to crash whenever I alt tab to a different window.
OS: Arch Linux 6.11.6-zen1-1-zen
Desktop: KDE Plasma 6.2.3 (X11)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX

Any workarounds would be appreciated to learn about. Otherwise, I hope that the devs will come up with a fix soon.

Same problem, whenever I press alt+tab the game closes (not every game, I've only noticed that with Valheim)

It's not clear what's causing the issue. We have multiple reports of the issues going away. Make sure your kernel is updates along with graphics card drivers. Test Vulkan and Open GL. Test in game render scale settings set to native and automatic. In-game background performance option enabled or disabled. Reset game settings by deleting Prefs file (in-game show player.log white button in the bottom left corner of the screen).

Finally after hours of searching do I find this thread. Ryzen 3900x, Radeon 5700, latest Arch default kernel, i3 window manager. Interestingly it does the same thing on my laptop which has totally different specs (intel cpu and igpu). Only happens in vulkan

According to people in other threads, the problem is with the default Mesa Vulkan drivers for AMD cards (RADV). Installing the AMD proprietary driver (AMDVLK) and setting up Valheim (and other Unity-based games) to use that instead fixed their crash issues.

Intel issue for your laptop may be similar, I couldn't say.

For reference

So **what is wrong with Valheim** that it does not work with the open source drivers for AMD but every other game I throw at my PC works fine?

When **one game** does not work where dozens of others do, the problem is in the **one game** that fails.
I didn't notice a big difference with AMDVLK and Vulkan. Trying to launch in OpenGL mode would cause a crash just before the title screen would load.

Using:
Gentoo 6.12.11, Gnome 46 on Wayland
Ryzen 5800X + RX 6700XT, Mesa 24.3.3 (RADV)

In case it helps someone, or maybe this is a just me thing:

My workaround is to launch the game in OpenGL mode, let it go through the loading screens and crash. Do this repeatedly, and it will work on the 4th attempt fairly consistently.

Then everything runs without issues. Weird. Same behavior on my Intel laptop.
