Unity crash pop up on startup. Have reinstalled game twice.

I can't get the game to open. Whenever I start the application a window briefly opens with a loading bar, loads for a second or two and then nothing. No error code, no nothing. I am not running any mods.
checked updates for windows, and fully up to date. I was able to take a screenshot fo the error and it just says: Valheim - Unity 2022.3 (....) with a red exclamation mark on the Valheim icon

update: after looking at betas I was able to get the default_preml working. no others worked

You most likely have outdated mods running, most likely BepInEx.

If you had used mods in the past, then it's entirely possible that they're still there since uninstalling the game does not also uninstall the mod files. To be totally sure, uninstall the game, delete the game's folder from where you install Steam (usually "\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim" for Windows users), then reinstall.

Ok, let's try to do this. Please follow the steps outlined below EXACTLY, otherwise it won't help. The steps below only work, when you haven't changed the default location where Steam stores its games.
1. Uninstall the game through Steam.
2. Go here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

and delete the folder "Valheim" if still present.
3. Reinstall the current game.

Please let us know if this helped. Oh, and restart your computer before you do all of this. Just in case. ;)

I would recommend doing a proper clean re-installation:

1. Open your Valheim installation folder: Steam library → right mouse click on Valheim → Manage → Browse local files[i.imgur.com]
2. Keep that installation folder opened, so don't close it yet.
3. Uninstall Valheim from Steam (Steam library → right mouse click on Valheim → Manage → Uninstall[i.imgur.com]).
4. Go back to the installation folder that you left opened, and delete any leftover files that un-installation didn't manage to remove, if there are any.
5. Install Valheim on Steam again.
6. Your installation folder should now look like this[i.imgur.com].

Had this problem too, removing BepInEx fixed the crash for me.
