Portal recipe won't unlock
Picked up Surtling Cores, Finewood and Greydwarf Eyes but it won't show in the build list under 'Misc.'. Playing multiplayer, no mods.

Dropped it all and picked it up again, tried getting the items in a singleplayer world and validated my files but it still won't unlock. I think I did see it unlock when I first picked up a Surtling Core, but I could be mistaken (maybe that was just the forge and kiln).

Maybe my progression is bugged since I got a couple of items from a friend, like an Iron Pickaxe. Is there anyway to fix this?

Instead of validating the game, try doing a clean re-installation.

1. Open your Valheim installation folder: Steam library → right mouse click on Valheim → Manage → Browse local files[i.imgur.com]
2. Keep that installation folder opened, so don't close it yet.
3. Uninstall Valheim from Steam (Steam library → right mouse click on Valheim → Manage → Uninstall[i.imgur.com]).
4. Go back to the installation folder that you left opened, and delete any leftover files that un-installation didn't manage to remove, if there are any.
5. Install Valheim on Steam again.
6. Your installation folder should now look like this[i.imgur.com].

Do you maybe have portals disabled on your server? To check, while in game hit F2 and in the middle of the small popup window there is a "Modifiers:" section. Does it say "No portals"?

Can others on your server make portals?

I don't have any modifiers, my friend can make portals.

Some proof that I'm not crazy (I think):
