II don't mean to be rude, but is it really the first time you play modded Valheim after a major update?

The good news is that the game's engine was not updated, so that BepInEx has not to be updated (reinstalled). I just tested a few minutes ago, and my modded Ashlands game correctly opens an old save.

hope there would be a little more backwards compatibility instead of everything just falling apart from an update

there isnt. its early access and there is no official mod support until early access ends. thus modding your game = your own risk pretty much.

thats why you keep 1 world purely vanilla and make a seperate valheim install for modded play that you never update.
