Valheim

Why can't I run the Dedicated Server and Valheim on the same steam account?
I'm trying to run a dedicated server on an old spare computer, it works great, my friends can see it and connect to it, but I have to reboot the server every time I connect because if I launch Valheim, it's insists on shutting the server down because it thinks Valheim is running on the other machine.

If I launch Valheim first, the server can reboot without complaint. but that still means I have to reboot the server every time I want to connect.

I know if I manually run the headless server batch, it doesn't need steam, but we want to run mods and r2modman insists on launching steam to run the server.

The dedicated server isn't the game, Steam should allow me to run them both at once. Is there a way to get it to do this?

I know how to launch the dedicated server without a steam account.. The mod manager insists on launching steam anyway.

I don't use mod managers, rather install mods manually, so can't help with setting up r2modman. You should probably go to mod manager forums or official Valheim Discord and mod channel.

I use a second computer to host Valheim. I install the Valheim dedicated server program via Steam, then launch it via command-line BAT. I am still able to connect to the server from my first computer, without Steam shutting down the dedicated server program. So yes, it's possible to run both programs from the same Steam account. I am unsure why you can't.

As a work-around to your issue, create a second Steam account, enable family share, and have the dedicated server app run through the second Steam account.

I'm wondering, are you running the dedicated server program via command-line BAT or directly from Steam?

For the third time: THE MOD MANAGER INSISTS ON LAUNCHING STEAM.

Unfortunately it's an issue with R2MM. There are open requests on the Github tracker to add options to run servers without a Steam login (or at least be able to direct it to SteamCMD instead), but I haven't seen anything about it being implemented yet. Sadly, this means that the only way to get around your problem is to install the mods to your server manually or use Vortex (maybe? I don't use Vortex so I don't know whether it would have the same issue or not).

So why post here at the Valheim forums? IronGate clearly stated they don't official support mods. If you have issues, bring it up with the mod manager forum.
