Valheim

game not saving progress
Twice in a row I've saved my game after going out and doing a bunch of hunting. first time i logged in and found my previous 30 minutes of gameplay was gone, I assumed it was because I forgot to save. so I redo most of what i could and then setup on my dock with a new campfire, save the game like twice, on top of the ten times i saved during my exploration, and then quit. I log on today and it's all gone once again. seeing my saves just not function just takes the life out of the game knowing nothing I do is gonna stick. Please address this. I've been connected to the internet this whole time. I have a similar issue in the homescreen, when I try to create a character and click 'done', it just returns me to the character screen without creating the character, and needs to be restarted to work.

Have you checked the part of the guide related to saving, which I pointed that you should? I doesn't sound like you did.

yeah well im reading the guide and the game didn't crash it just didn't save. why is such a glaring issue still present like 2 years after release. this isn't an intermittent issue it is constant, so i turned of cloud saves and it removed my character. so i select the "move save to local" option and itjust does nothing. another like 12 hours just gone. this is ridiculous

It's not, because It's a different issues every time. Cloud saving is sensitive, because of large saves sizes (procedurally generated game), and RAM and storage limitations, and many broken Steam bugs. This is the current one, which happens due to Steam overlay and increases RAM usage on some systems for every game launch (happens to every game, but there's an example[i.imgur.com] of what happens after launching Valheim 25times).

If you need help with fixing your saves, please come to official Valheim Discord (steam bugs channel), where it will be easier to share screens, thus troubleshoot problems easier.

The solution was just disabling cloud saves after moving the world save and player save to local, but I had to launch steam in administrator mode for the button to do so to even function. I can definitely see this being an issue on the steam side of things, but for every other game I own the cloud save function seems to function. Save state is fine without internet interference. :leatherneck:

Hm... seems like you lack admin privileges as a user on your PC, which should be default. Are you sharing your PC with anyone? Did you get any error messages when you were unable to move a save to local without being an admin? Did you at any point reinstall Steam, or install in on another driver? Used system restore on your PC?

When I first attempted to move my saves to the local drive, upon pressing the "move to local" button it would dim as if the action was completed, but just not be and still say the file was in the cloud, no error messages or notifications on launch. Kept restarting the game to correct this but in the end it didn't work until I launched steam in admin mode. As for Admin mode, It's just me on here and I'm not sure as to why I, the only user on this computer, Wasn't granted admin privileges upon unboxing this pos from Origin and creating my account, but If it was such a big deal to me I'd just finally take the time to figure out how to just make myself admin (even tho whenever i use admin mode to launch things or make system changes it let's me do so). But yeah maybe becoming the one true admin would solve the cloud issue but I've never been a fan of having to choose between my cloud files and my local files when I haven't gamed in a while. I'll just re-enable if when I upgrade in like 2025 or something.
