Game is Unplayable - Mouse not Responding
Just picked up the game on Sale this evening, cause my Wife plays it sometimes and tells me she wants me to play it with her.

Anyway, soon as I launch the game, the main menu loads up in a little window, and the mouse cursor is jumping all over the window and is uncontrollable. I can't change the resolution, or any other setting.

All I can do is open the task bar and force it to close.

Is there a fix for this, or did I just waste my money on an unplayable game?

It looks like the game is also stuck loading in Gamepad mode, and I can't change that either since the mouse in uncontrollable. I founf I can navigate and make some changes with the keyboard, but I can't navigate to the "OK" button.
Need more details. Like using any mods, computer specs, operating system, etc.
Uh. Mods?

I didn't know there were any...

I only just bought the game, and tried to launch it for the first time.

I'm on Windows 10 Pro.

Ryzen 7 7700X
Gskill Flare DDR5-6000 32GB
ASRock PG Riptide Wifi B650E
Intel ARC A770 16GB LE
Samsung 990 Pro 2TB m.2 SSD
Crucial P5 Plus 2TB m.2 SSD
eVGA 750w G2 Supernova PSU
Have you tried to verify game files? It may not have downloaded and installed correctly. Do you have a game controller plugged in or connected? If so try to disconnect it (I know it has been an issue in a couple other games).

There are lots of mods just an fyi, here are 2 sites you can find some at if you decide you want to check them out, once you get the game working that is. https://valheim.thunderstore.io/package/

Run the windows trouble shooter. If your mouse is a wireless one update the drivers and change the batteries. Some mice have reset buttons on the bottom. If yours does try resetting it. Try switching the USB port your mouse is plugged into. Switch your mouse out and test a different mouse (borrow your wife's mouse long enough to do this if you don't have a spare). Open your control panel, go to hardware and sound, go to devices and printers, then go to mouse. Disable click lock if it is on. Go to the pointers tab and make sure its set to Windows Default (system scheme) and normal select is highlighted. Precision select setting can cause this problem. Check your power management system and make sure the mouse is not set to power saver mode.

If you are on a lap top and not using the touch pad make sure the touch pad is turned off. One of the function keys (F6 or F8) should also allow you to toggle the touch pad on and off.

It could also be the new Steam overlay. I know it gave some people trouble when it was first released (including me). You can try disabling the steam overlay and see if that fixes it. Pressing win+alt+M locks/unlocks the cursor and has fixed this issue for a few people.

Don't launch with controllers plugged in, especially PS controllers if you have DS4 for windows installed or don't have PS controller support enabled on Steam. First test launching without mouse and without keyboard to narrow down which device is causing problems.

Thank you.

This was the solution.

It was my HOTAS that was plugged in, that was causing the issue...

The game seems to be working normally now!
I had this same issue. Just purchased and installed the game and the mouse kept snapping to the middle. I've got no game pad attached and yet it's clear it was fighting between activating that and letting me use the mouse. Thankfully because it was a new purchase I was able to get a refund.

OP had a joystick causing problems. Various devices that could cause input problems can be connected via Bluetooth as well. What kind of mouse you had?
I've got a wired mouse and keyboard. I do have a bluetooth gamepad, but that's currently without batteries in a drawer. So I don't really have that many peripherals that could be creating the issue outside of a macro-pad which is simply recognized as a HID.
