Okay, the campfire is already taking damage before you even click to enter the cauldron menu. The issue isn't there, it's that you're stepping too far forward when you move the camera under the overhang. Since the cauldron is sitting directly on the campfire, it breaks after the campfire breaks because there's nothing supporting it (though it looks like the stands are on the ground, the object is actually supported by the campfire).
Just rewatched again and yeah - you step right onto the campfire just a fraction of a second before the camera repositions itself under the overhang. Fire sources are programmed to take damage whenever they deal damage (whether or not the target actually receives that damage) to prevent them from being used as a set-and-forget forever-trap.
Huh? Earlier in the video you access the cauldron just fine without getting so close. I think you're having a perspective issue - you don't have to nudge right up against the cauldron like you have been, certainly not as close as you think you are. See those cooking stations on the other campfire? You could stand right at the corner of those nearest you and still be able to get to it.

Cooking station distance access is about 4-5 times that of the cauldron.
