Is it a SteamDeck problem?
Of the game?
I suspect it's the type of connection Valheim makes which seems to conflict with SteamDeck.
Still, I get bugged by random (and often repeating) disconnects every now and then. At times it's unplayable and I can't figure out what's the problem (no such issue when joining from PC)
Same issue. Desktop devices connect without issue, deck just says failed to connect.
setup:
running a dedicated server with steamcmd with "login anonymous"
able to connect from PC
my friend can connect from his PC
cannot connect from steam deck
the server is added using the "join code" in all cases and is protected with a password, all server settings are the default ones
issue:
on steam deck, when choosing to connect to server you get a screen that says "connecting" with a spinning hammer, that is displayed for 10-15 seconds then it drops you back to main screen with "failed to connect". The expected behavior is that the game asks for the password after connecting.
I've tried to run the game as a non-steam game from desktop mode using proton 7.0.5 - that did not help.
Try switching off crossplay on your server (remove -crossplay from bat file you use to launch it). It helped me (though occasional disconnects still happen from time to time).
That is if you know how to allow your friend connect to a dedicated server without the "join code" (it works only with crossplay).
Did disabling crossplay allow you to connect to a player hosted game from a steamdeck?
yes. That's the only way I can connect to someone's server via steamdeck. With crossplay on I get the same error as the rest of the people in this discussion.
Still, like I said, I suffer from random disconnects and found no way to resolve that issue completely
