steamdeck unable to connect to any multiplayer instance
I have been playing on my desktop for months and never had trouble connecting to a friends instance. However, my steamdeck cannot connect to the same instance, I see the connecting screen with the spinning hammer for a minute or two and then says failed to connect back at the title screen. It never even asks for a password. The same is true for any community server I try and join. Has anyone else has this problem? Were you able to fix it?

As a secondary data point, my friend cannot join if I host from my steamdeck either.

I'm having the same problem, been playing this game for months and now I can't connect to my friend's server. Tried connecting to a community one and still same. Just as you, spinning hammer for like 20-25 secs and then "failed to connect" without even letting me put the server's password. I've tried looking for solutions but still nothing.

I join the problem. Two days trying and nothing. I switch to the desktop PC and it works the first time.
Is it a SteamDeck problem?
Of the game?
I suspect it's the type of connection Valheim makes which seems to conflict with SteamDeck.

I had a similar problem with my Steam Deck. Solved after my friend hosting non-dedicated server switched off crossplay.

Still, I get bugged by random (and often repeating) disconnects every now and then. At times it's unplayable and I can't figure out what's the problem (no such issue when joining from PC)

Same for me while connecting to a friends server from my steam deck...

Using a local network, with a dedicated server made without using the Deck users login,

Same issue. Desktop devices connect without issue, deck just says failed to connect.

that is a +1 for me
setup:
running a dedicated server with steamcmd with "login anonymous"
able to connect from PC
my friend can connect from his PC
cannot connect from steam deck
the server is added using the "join code" in all cases and is protected with a password, all server settings are the default ones

issue:
on steam deck, when choosing to connect to server you get a screen that says "connecting" with a spinning hammer, that is displayed for 10-15 seconds then it drops you back to main screen with "failed to connect". The expected behavior is that the game asks for the password after connecting.

I've tried to run the game as a non-steam game from desktop mode using proton 7.0.5 - that did not help.

Try switching off crossplay on your server (remove -crossplay from bat file you use to launch it). It helped me (though occasional disconnects still happen from time to time).
That is if you know how to allow your friend connect to a dedicated server without the "join code" (it works only with crossplay).

@Tim Korso

Did disabling crossplay allow you to connect to a player hosted game from a steamdeck?

yes. That's the only way I can connect to someone's server via steamdeck. With crossplay on I get the same error as the rest of the people in this discussion.
Still, like I said, I suffer from random disconnects and found no way to resolve that issue completely

I have had the exact same issues everyone else is describing. I would really like a fix for how I can get my steam deck to join other players

I'm having the same problem. Still no easy fix for this?
