Think it's a bug.
Maybe it's a problem with local servers, but i don't know.
But to paraphrase:
2 questions:
Are you running the most current patch on your computer?
Is the server running the same patch as your computer is running?
If the patch numbers are different, You need to alter the installation in steam game settings so that Your home system patch matches the server system patch. If you are Admin for the server you are trying to connect to, you could instead take the game offline to update the latest patch and strip out any mods that may have broken as a result of the new massive addition patch.
Friend starts the server locally. I connect and login via the password. After a few minutes the network icon in the top left corner flashes for me, I get disconnected.
Same thing when I host and he joins.
This worked fine before the update.
