Anyone having FPS drop issues with ASUS TUF Laptop Series?
I've been looking for a solution for this problem for a very long time and I've seen that many people with this problem are using the same laptop model.

(My Laptop :ASUS TUF505DT)

AFAIK pretty much everybody that has been playing this game for a while has FPS issues. It's pretty much unavoidable and due to mostly a very inefficient world save that also causes crashes for some users and a not very optimized game.

How does your FPS issue manifest?

GPU utilization drops every 2-5 minute
It's like the GPU is overheating, but that's just 80-86°C . That's pretty cool for my laptop. I play Red dead redemption 2 with 90°C+ that's normal

Well, how does it look in game? Do you get a message beforehand that a world save is imminent? Do you experience micro stutters?

This is so funny. :D

You have WAY better performance than I do. Probably way better than 95% of all players. Mine stutters WAY more. What you experience is a dream compared to what I have. You have every once in a while a microstutter, which is mostly normal with almost any game and is barely noticeable.

So, I don't see anything wrong with your setup.

Trust me. There is no problem. Your computer is more than capable of handling Valheim.

I dont see any stuttering on your video. My setup is similar to yours and usually just see 1 or 2sec freezes when saving on my 300+ day game.

I only once had a massive fps drop from 140 to 20/30 for unknown reason when I entered a new area ( plain if I remember correctly). The game would be super laggy and couldn't recover until I restarted. I had been playing for a while, so idk maybe a memory leak somewhere.

Anyway, you dont seem to have any problem at all.

Ok, I was wondering. Yes, these are serious lag spikes. I don't have them as severly as you, but I do encounter them every once in a while.

If that is a 1650GTX than your lag spikes shouldn't be as severe, but then this is laptop material, and not on the same level as the desktop version.

Serious questions, please bear with me:
1. Do you regularily restart Steam?
2. Do you regularily restart your computer?
3. Are your GPU drivers up-to-date?

One thing you can try, although I don't think it will help, is to uninstall the game through Steam, go here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common
... and delete the folder "Valheim" (if present), then re-install the game.

- Every time I turn on and off my laptop (i enable startup program)
2. Do you regularily restart your computer?
- 2-3 time per day
3. Are your GPU drivers up-to-date?
- yep and I tried even the old version. (Every version i can download 1 moth - 1 year ago )

I tried even reinstall game, windows try in Win10 and Win11 ,i try to use optimization mode

and nothing work

I think it's because my laptop BAD luck with this game

My friend also encountered this problem. and he use ASUS TUF but higher GPU and CPU and newer
electricdawn Jul 26, 2022 @ 11:27am
Well, the game is not terribly optimized, so it might really be your laptop. Do you know what GPU you have?

Edit: You might also want to regularily clean the laptop from dust, if it's older than five years, then you should also renew your thermal paste. It might not even be the GPU's fault, if the CPU has to throttle severely due to overheating because of dust and bad thermal paste. I need to look at your video again...

Yep, definitely overheating. Cleaning, and then thermal paste renewal.

You can see from your video that your CPU overheats at 101c and drops the clock to 400MHz. The laptop barely meets the minimum requirements but it should be able to run the game so maybe some dust cleaning could indeed help.

Closing all background programs or undervolting the CPU might also help.
