Judging by posts in the Bugs & Technical Issues sub-forum, it might be worth a try to switch server and client to the default_old branch. But ultimately, the ball lies in the mod authors' court.

Anyone willing to help me try and test out player to player connection? Trying to work out a fix for the blackscreen on join, while using mods

Me and my buddy are having a black screen of death when trying to connect too. Really annoying. Both our games work playing single player and both of us having completely matching mod versions. And also verified files via steam. Tried using the beta option to go back to last stable build but not even that's working. We spend more time trying to get this game to work than playing it haha. I guess that's the gamble with mods.

What I did was search the mod configs for anything that said server sync in them. That or if the mod pages clearly state that it does / requires it. I removed those mods for now, updated another, and updated Jotunn to be able to connect to a server where I played.

Beyond that and what Nefrarya said, then no clue if there is another issue around server sync update.

Switching to the old branch doesnt work- game is currently unplayable. Sad
