Check windows sound, right click speakers and selecet setting, sometimes windows will select an other output that you normal use.

Disable windows sonic for headphones is what someone on the internet suggested. Try Google.
Try resetting your firewall. Sometimes firewalls only grant partial access and features can be blocked without you knowing.

Do not disable firewall.

I have been having the same problem with windows updates. Speakers are still fully recognised and functioning as far as the OS is concerned, but total silence. I've done some pretty extensive troubleshooting the multiple times this has happened. Microsoft's support pages always blames outdated audio drivers.

The thing that fixes it 100% of the time, is rolling back the update. It's worth it because I like some audio in my audio/visual experience.

Mine was fine from initial install, then I saved the game using the console "save" command... 5 seconds later sound disappeared.... 10 seconds later my game froze solid.... 20 seconds later task manager and my whole system froze solid.... Why the hell are they using Unity, its TRASH!

Once you get the sound going, you'll want to turn off the music so you can better hear the deer. Very soothing.

I always have issues where the game sounds are WAY lower than any other sounds on my machine. I had to physically turn the speakers way up.

Then I forget to turn them down and load something else...Usually resulting in a heart attack.

Check your firewall has been suggested, but also check your anti-virus. Make sure the game is on the list of exceptions. Verify your game cache just in case it's a corrupt audio file or issue with a game file. Valheim is small so won't take long to verify.

Check your sounds with the game running. Alt-tab to the desktop and right click your speaker. Check under both your sound settings and volume mixer to make sure the game sound is turned up and that the game has the correct sound device selected. In the sound settings you need to go to the advanced options section (scroll down a bit) and select the app volume and device preferences option. Then you can pick which specific devices are being used for Valheim.

I do recommend you turn the music off, or way down, so you can hear all the other sounds in addition to the dulcet tones of the deer. BLARRRRT!!!!

Seriously though, turn the music down for a while and listen to the sounds around you. The sound design is quite good.

I found the solution. I had to close Sonic Sound Studio and then relaunch the game and the sound works perfectly.
It's really weird because all my other games have no problem with sound, but Valheim seems to have an issue with Sonic Sound Studio.

This answer got me really hopeful for a moment. Could you rephrase it? such as close sonic sound studio? Like using task manager force it to shut down?

You could use task manager. For me, it was in the "hidden icons" on the bottom right window tray. i right clicked the icon and clicked "exit" or "quit" or whatever. Then, make sure to restart your game.
(it won't work if you do it while you're in the game still).

hope this helps
