<now if the game crashes or something but I don't mod and my game hasn't crashed for a very long time>
North Am near NYC so don't know if that helps in my case being near servers or whatever.. IDK
Now recently it won't show it syncing when I close the game. Normally I can hover my mouse over the tray icon and see it syncing but it has not been. It does sync quickly when I start the game so that is fine.. as long as it syncs each time I don't care when and don't need it both times.
This same thing has been happening with another game I play also.
For a while it would sync when closed and opened. On my other game the syncs were long so it was a bit of a pain. But recently for both games the sync has only been happening on start up.
Not sure if this is your issue but something to watch for.
Some players here might have slow and flaky connections, though. And then you might run into trouble. It is best to turn it off.
You should do backups either way.

I had this same problem (but on Linux). I was able to solve it by uninstalling Valheim and then removing the local save folders in the following locations:
After reinstalling the steam cloud sync started working again.
If you are using Linux you can use search your home directory for IronGate by:
On Windows you can search inside %USERPROFILE% for IronGate and see where the local saves are located.
If you are concerned that deleting something might lose data, just rename the folders instead. E.g. from IronGate to IronGateBackup.
Perfect. Thanks for sharing your solution.
