Workbench Too Exposed
The walls I'm using snap in place correctly and there is NO visual indication that the workbench is sticking out beyond the roof or any visual interference showing. This is very annoying. Can you add some indication of the exposure before we finish at least something? I've attempted 12 times in a row and it still not working....on flat ground at that !!!

^ Pretty much this. Always build like that (orientation of roof wont matter, only need 2 roof pieces to be sure), and you'll never face workbench issues ever again ;)

But yes, a visual indicator like green or red outline to know if workbench is useable or not would be immensely appreciated, but it's far from the only needed indicators... :p

Do you use two 26° roof tiles? Did you try to extend the roof? Would you have a screenshot?

if your campfire is nearby, you can see if it will work by the resting status. If you are resting while standing up at the bench, its probably covered enough. If you are exposed and not resting, it is probably not good enough. If all else fails a U shaped setup of walls all the way around it with roofing will not fail. Normally 2 walls and 4 roof tiles (one up, one down keeps them out of the way) works, shove the bench against the 2 walls.

Putting in floors as well might help.

Sir, you told that there was no visual indication and that you made 12 attempts in a row! Of course, if it's too close, it doesn't work, and more so if you put only half walls in the back, and the model visibly, or not so visibly, clips through the roof, thanks to its superstructures. Is that the visual indication you were looking for, or only the red print when the clipping would be too important?

It's the same with beds, anyway. And as with beds, there are too indications: lack of a roof, and too much exposure, the later being related to lateral rays tracing to the "outside", hence an issue with walls? Build a workbench on the top terrace of an open roofed tower: too much exposure, yet it's under a roof. You don't need four wall sections to remove exposure (as on the screenshots), it also depends of what surrounds the workbench, what protect it from "the wind"..

Yes, it looks like the red print is just here to forbid major clipping, like any built item, while the exposure is computed after the workbench is built. Perhaps it would induce lag if exposure and coverage by a roof (even for protection from rain) were computed in "real" time prior to land any construct.
