Failed to connect
Hello. I cannot join any online server, I get "Failed to connect". Every server also says that there are "1/10 players" on every server, although I know three of my friends are playing on the same server. I can play on my own world, but my friends can't join me when I create a server for my world.

What I have tried:
- Restarting computer
- Reinstalling Valheim
- Joining the host directly through Steam
- Relaunching Valheim
- Checked firewall settings
- Checked that my game is up-to-date
- Checked that my internet is working properly

Any suggestions? How can I get to play with my friends?

Servers are almost always password protected. So unless you have a friend that you are playing with, or find a group in a LFG channel, you'll find that across the board.

The problem comes with the fact that..well...who can you trust to not destroy/take your stuff? Glitch out your world and make it unloadable?

Too many problems for open multiplayer.

As for not being able to join friends, try using the Google for ways to connect to them, as I'm dumb in that area.

FYI you are also showing as offline on steam.

Do you have your friends list privacy set to offline?

I have no problem in connecting to my friends on Steam. I ended up watching my friends play through the Steam spectator tool, as I gave up on being able to join them.

The "Failed to connect" box pops up before any password box.

Do you use, or did you use mods?
Do your friends use mods?

Did you try joining friends by IP using the ingame option? (they have a dedicated server?)

my wife has this problem sometimes. what we've found is that her steam profile is offline, even though she is able to see her friends list and it shows she is online. logging out of steam and relogging in seems to fix it.

No mods, neither me or they. I did not try to join by IP since none of us know how to check the IP and since I see no reason why it would work. We would be playing in one of my friends world. My other friends have no problems joining, but for some reason I could not join them. Thank you for the suggestion though.

The person who hosts it. Does he host it from home? Or is it a hired server?

I'm pretty sure he tried this by restarting his PC.

Hmm, it is worth a shot but I restarted the computer already. Of course, if Steam somehow automatically puts me in offline mode then it could explain things. Thanks.

He hosts from home.
He can go to www.whatismyip.com (DONT publicly share the IP here though and be cautious who you share your IP with).

Default Valheim port is 2456 (if he has not changed that this'll work)

So to join you'd have to fill in his IP adress and add ":2456" to it. It'll look something like:
123.456.789:2456

Edit: Some interpunction added for readability :)
