Is fenris armor worth it?
got the game recently and have a good home however im a "light armor" user and just started exploring mountains after finding silver and such i eventually find a cave and get a whopping 10 hair 4 hours later i have yet to find a single cave in 3 huge mountain biomes aside from the first cave. the effects seem enticing considering the next boss appears to be a dragon so frost and fire resistance is nice as well as actually gaining movement speed. should i just settle for wolf armor/keep my thorn armor or is it really worth the effort for fenris and im just unlucky

It would be worth it to watch a couple vids on the subject and really look at how they are formed and which way they are facing. They do form a pattern. If you are in a good sized mountain area they are there, you just don't see them. Even smaller mountains have them.

My suggestion is to look closely at the area right where obsidian starts to show up. Look near silver veins and the golem spawns near cabins. Caves are usually facing away from the mountain range or center.

And yes, if you like root armor, troll armor, Fenris is great. The caves tend to have a lot of mats in them if you are methodical in your approach. Wont take that many caves, probably fewer than 10) to fit you out and level up some, depending on rngesus of course, fickle god that he is.

If you have really bad luck with getting the needed materials, nah, it's not worth it. Wolf Armor will do ya fine. If you happen to be lucky enough with the mats, you might like it.

For your dragon boss, frost resist is all you need; fire resist is good for the boss after that, though.

The fenris armor gives you a speed boost. I often use fenris pants for the speed boost, root chest for the pierce resistance, and the best helmet I can craft for the armor. But that's for running around the plains and mistlands (watch out for fire and switch out the root piece or bring barley wine). I use heavy armor for bosses. So, I usually at least try to get the pants.

Also, if you aren't knocking down all the black curtains and wall decorations you may be missing out on more fenris hair. Some can be grabbed and some knocked down with arrows.

I agree with Zep. The speed bost is really noticeable. You dont even need to ungrade it. Its great for runnng around the lesser biomes gathering stuff. But yes it is totally skippable.

Since I lack competition-grade gaming skills, I've always gone heavy armor. That said, the Public Test version has introduced "World Modifiers" to adjust difficulty. By knocking the difficulty down one click, I find I can do very well in the light armor.

Fenris armor is my new favorite. The speed bonus (or perhaps simply the lack of a speed penalty) is quite noticeable as mentioned above. When I'm being bested I can actually escape/evade instead of lumber away and get smacked in the back!

I recently finished a game where I wore Troll leather up to the mountains and then Fenris to the end. I never got the trophy I needed to make the headpiece so I upped my armor stats by wearing a drake helm, then padded helm, then carapace helm.

The Mistlands (and the final boss) was a lot more enjoyable in the Fenris set. Already started a new game and plan to do the same.

Fenris armor is by far the best armor in the game if you like light armor. Sometimes you get lucky and find enough mats on one mountain, but it is one of the harder grinds in the game. You can go all the way through mistlands with Fenris armor, so think of it as an end-game investment.

Fenris is the best. 20 % more speed compared to most armors ( +10 % instead of -10 ) . speed is your defense and offense, with fire resistance .

What in the world are mats? Also, you're pretty good to be exploring the mountains after getting the game recently.

fenris makes sense later in game for starting in the mistlands. lot of jump and run to do. without fenris, you need to make more breaks to refill your stamina. i suggest to craft it to maximum possible level.

still wearing my fenris in the mist - put a feather cape on it and its hard to go back to "slow" -
took me at least 10 caves to get enough hair though - all over the map - its a major quest

Its good farming and maintenance armor because of the speed boost

Fenris + Eikthyr blessing allows you to become a flax and barley thief. Dash into a Fuling camp, grab some stalks and run the heck out. Much easier than defeating the entire camp to get the stalks and you can later come back in the full padded set.

I was not aware of knife boost. It does boost fists though.
