Valheim

Valheim

When new alpha's release do we start over completely?
If so then why bother dedicating months of work just to loose it all? If I could somehow have the new mobs or fixes update in a current alpha server started today, but in like 5 months when another alpha drops, that would be nice. Been on Steam for 15.5 years. This is my first post discussion. I probably did it all wrong lol. It's why I avoid playing 7 Days to Die anymore. I guess games like Minecraft you have to start a new world to get new biomes, just wish they were able to be added in. Even when released, no game really is completely finished. We get EA for 10 years or games that release to retail pre-alpha that should've gone EA. If you made it this far, thanks! :steamhappy:

This is my most played game of all time lol

Currently quite old worlds still work perfectly fine have had new biomes added, provided the space hasn't already been explored.

So no need to assume doom and gloom.

The Honest answer to your question is just :

"No"

If you play strictly Vanilla then sometimes a major change means you have to reset the world to enjoy the new content, but by no means every time

Plus for those of us the do not consider Mods to be the work of the Antichrist there has been a Mod out for YEARS now that fixes this very problem. You use it ONCE then uninstall it and new content is available in Old old worlds.

My oldest world is just over 2 year sold still works has all new content to current is unmodded and carries on just fine. As Ll I did was load it run the mod just One time got all the new stuff uninstalled Mod then went back t vanilla.

Why they haven't built an official version this elegant and simple solution into the game; or launched as a stand alone tool alongside the dedicated server tool is one of Valhiems (many) unfathomable mysteries,

No for multiple reasons.

1. As others stated, worlds unless you've explored biomes that are intended to have bosses or other new features will still have the ability to spawn that new content.

2. You can always maintain your original seed and make a newer version of the same seed or a different seed and continue progress on it from there too. Outside of tames, you'd be able to shift things between the two. However...

3. You can also opt to on a new seed to use the new world modifier settings, admin commands and more to quickly take care of any issues with what you desire too. Its thus not a "loss of progress" just a shifting of it.

Nah wasn’t thinking doom and gloom. I never think that way. I’m too squirrel brain distracted to get it done or max anything out. Just wanted to have the newest thing they had via EA. I was thinking that they might have new biomes appear in unexplored areas, that’s awesome and I really appreciate you confirming it. I’ll still explore lots though.

Extremely helpful input! Going to share it with my friends asking as well.

Haha well said and great points! Much appreciated.

Back in 2013 I read a comment asking something like this about Minecraft. I don’t mind making a new world, was just curious. I thought to myself, how many times through the years has that particular gamer punched wood, starting from scratch. I don’t mind restarting, just didn’t want to build something that took years then realize oh hey, this item it’s now weak vs this new mob. Built a whole ass base to have this baby mutant X shaped thing walk right through it in The Forest but didn’t care one bit. It was funny and a learning experience to not build there or with said material, etc. Say I have a giant castle in the frost biome in Valheim that took me years to compete and it gets wrecked, or a Fallout bunker in 7 Days. Whatever, it’s fun to start fresh and find a new area to build anyways. I almost feel like this was a brain update for me to just stfu and play the game. I was enjoying it, just curious when asked by buddies. Again thanks for the replies!!!

I sometimes play on a dedicated server that will get wiped every couple months, and is guaranteed to reset with the arrival of a new update. Building bases and stuff in Valheim may seem daunting initially, but what once took years to build can be accomplished in just a few days as you enhance your skills. Similar to everything you do in life, the more you undertake building projects, the more adept and efficient you become. In a typical gaming scenario, many of us create new worlds, and the primary rationale for permitting item transfers between worlds is due to the fact that the game is in development. Consequently, when updates affect biomes and specific locations such as crypts, burial chambers, etc., starting a new world and transferring belongings to the fresh world is a straightforward solution.

Extremely well said and very true! It’s exciting with fresh ideas and areas to build in, thus honing in skills as mentioned. Thanks for the inspiration and I admire you play Vanilla as do I.
