building problem plz add flying cam mode when building
please add a flying cam building thing where i can finally place down that ...... bastard of a log that don't wanna be placed at the bottom unless you're specific to a millimeter!!! it's frustrating having to spend hours and hours digging flattening redoing until you're finally done with that 1 single log....

Try toggling snap points with the Q & E keys. If you need to slide something down or up to create a static location for a snap point, remember that you can hold shift to take something off of auto-snap entirely and then push it up against an existing piece and maneuver it within means.

I haven't had much cause except on very, very rare occasions to dig and re-level terrain to snap pieces in since the toggled points were added.

If you like modding, there are quite a few mods that enhance building camera. I hope they add one of them for the release version. They already integrated some mod functions into vanilla, so there's a chance they add an official free camera for the building aspect of the game.

If you're having trouble snapping something below a build it's usually easiest to add a temporary scaffold piece next to where you want it and point the mouse at that. It doesn't matter if the scaffold is snapped or freeform provided it's at the right angle.

It can often help to build a temporary post & beam to your specific snap point in order to get that 'one log' to fit just right.
Then remove the temp post & beam afterwards. I often find this to be an adequate solution to such problems.

You don't even need to line it up with the intended snap point, so long as it's butted up against the correct surface it can be placed freehand and still work as a guide. You just need a surface that can 'catch' the mouse pointer close enough that it snaps the rest of the way.

i already have done everything everyone suggested, it takes hours sometimes anyway because it just won't snap. thus me talking about something to add here, i wouldn't be here otherwise!

It would be nice for creative building, but what's actually happening to you should be a rare edge case, are you dealing with dozens of pieces like this at a time? Can you maybe screenshot the offender?

You can fly, if you're entering debug mode. You need to activate the console, then hit F5 to lower the console window. Type "devcommands" in there, hit Return, then "fly" and hit Return.

WASD moves your character as usual, space (if you haven't remapped jump, that is) is up and ctrl is down.

To activate the console, you need to add "-console" as a command line argument to Valheim in Steam.

To get out of flight, just type "fly" again in the console, same goes for "devcommands".

Be warned, you should be close to the ground when turning fly off, otherwise you will go "splat".

If you want to fly then add -console to your steam launch options.
Once in game type 'devcommands' and then 'fly' to have free flight mode. Typing 'fly' again deactivates it. I don't *think* it'll disable build costs unlike devcommands

I think they need the ability to fly down through the ground too.

can't use consoles when on a friend's server and we're playing without console commands. i don't understand why people think i haven't tried everything before or considered it but decided we wanted to play normally. it's a simple thing to add camera movement to building which is why i though " hey maby the devs could see this and fix the issue "

does devcommands fly mode works

Well that's the thing, they might do that but you won't get direct confirmation here and it'll take years. Meanwhile what's actually happening with your build is weird and maybe someone knows a workaround if we could work out what was breaking this one build step. Usually it's fiddly but not impossible.

It should be apparent that, "if everyone thinks I havent tried everything", there might be a reason why.

Snapping is not too hard, IF, and that's a big if, you use all options available to you. Especially Q and E to move the snapping point, and Rotate to move the piece into the right position.
