When you first get flametal, you will likely be using it to make cauldron upgrades and workstation upgrades as opposed to armor. Since the Carapace armor is leveled up with refined eitr and carapace it gives you a temporary upgrade using materials you likely have in abundance while you build up you flametal supply.
I'm not saying it's an issue. but as a prepping player I always took the heavy of the area and finished it for the boss. and I stack up on supplies even if they might not be needed incase one of my buddies needs some if they lose their gear to some abyss. I understand the system but it just feels odd. Again not an issue to me. I got around with it just fine. But just feels odd.
Lvl 3 carapace armor by definition IS the max lvl mistlands armor. Lvl 4 is Ashlands tier (although pretty pointless when you can just use the metal to make the new armor imo.
I am not sure if the method by which all of the Forge upgrades are acquired will change come 1.0 release, and thus stagger access to upgrade level 4 for iron/wolf/padded armor in the future, or if things will always remain as they are now, but sufficed to say there is existing precedent from the very beginning of the game that you won't necessarily have the final level of upgrade available for your gear before proceeding to another biome.
Regarding this, pre-mistlands. only biomes that require venturing to harder biomes are Black Forest, Mistlands and Meadows(it's really funny that you need to reach all the way to mountains to finish upgrading leather armor) But basicly Swamp, Mountains and Plains dont require you to to go the next biome(the last 3 before mistlands which is probably why I found it odd mistlands broke the formula.)
Rank 4 is just bonus, think of it as upgrading your old Mistlands gear one more time if you're having a really hard time in Ashlands and getting the new sets.
I would agree but Mistlands rank 3 gear handles itself REALLY well in Ashlands. and Even now at Rank 3 Ashlands gear It doesnt really give you much better durability against the onslaught, maybe few more times to fail a parry. I suppose if you really like the Mistlands heavy armor you could make it 4 and keep it.
I have never tried catapulting a boat but I have found multiple seeds you can catapult your character from bordering mountains into Ashlands. If you want the seeds let me know and I will post here.
I also found a few where in the far east or west there are biomes (always seems to be black forest) that are about 50 yards from edge of map.
I did like the extra time that the Ashlands flametal set gives you when stepping on those - sometimes invisible - lava pools that seem to be everywhere. I'm always maxing my armor and when the metal cutter made level 4 carapace possible I probably wasted the materials to do so. Only used it for one fortress assault before switching to flametal but with my poor combat skills I could use all the help I can get.
Yeah Ashlands does allow you to walk over the burning pieces of ground. Got me good on my first run.
And yeah we can glide from spire to spire with feather cape , not much swimming
I wouldnt call it a base. More like hidden spot where to build a portal. which I would then re-inforce after I got my bearings. and it took alot of "self-termination" runs to succeed. But I didn't mind. The Karve and Longship actually take the boiling water with stride. But Karve's issue was the new seamonster. the armed and dangerous Bonemaw, who makes quick work just about any ship if you dont take it down first. But if you managed to avoid it. It was really much more managable after that.
