Valheim

Giving up on this game due to Ashlands performance
I have been playing Valheim since the first week of early access, but I gotta say that I am just utterly disappointed with the performance of Ashlands. On a top-tier machine and I'm getting frequent FPS drops below 15. Now add some co-op and you've got major de-sync at times and combat that results in rubberbanding and frequent deaths from bad net code.

It is shocking that you released the biome in such a poor state of performance. I had fun over the years, but now it's time to say goodbye.

I turned off vertical sync and it helped me out a lot.

i have no performance problems.. but if i had ones.. i would go in my graphic options and turn a few slider down.. to the net code.. never had a problem playing this game in online co-op.. maybe it is chained to your poor fps, bad internet connection or bad server hoster.

Do you actually have a top tier machine, though? I do, and the game runs fine on max settings.

I'm playing on a 6 years old laptop which now would be considered as mid or even low tier, and everything works just fine. Maybe it's a compatibility issue, as the game is not that demanding. Hope you'll figure and won't give up.

I am playing on a 13 year old PC (Graphics card has been updated since purchase) and I can play with other people in Ashlands without much trouble. Things blur a lot but I don't see any rubber banding problems. I would check your settings, if you have a top-tier machine you must have some setting problems or compatibility problems specific to your setup.

Even if 'just' a compatibility issue, it's kinda sad that performance is now tanking for many after the game ran fine up until ashlands.

Why are you announcing this to everyone?

Check to see if system resources are the issue. You could be running all kinds of apps/software applications silently in the background.

Update video drivers, and make sure any/all bloatware is NOT running in the background of windows.

Because it is a major isuue many people are having. It is new with Ashlands. The more people that report it the greater chance (hopefully) the devs will look into it.

My old comp with its 960 video card worked fine. Either the OP does not have a remotely top-end comp or its set up extremely badly, or one or more components are failing.

Is that the case, though? You generally don't see people posting: 'everything works fine!' It is only those who do experience issues that post, so there is a heavy bias towards 'issues'.

The game has never been particularly optimised, but the vast majority of complaints stem from two things in general: people overestimating their machines and failure to update drivers. The first is simply fixed by lowering settings, the second requires updating drivers. Yet, somehow peope would rather moan and complain than do these things first.

Of course, there is a third culprit: old mods that haven't been updated and cause all sorts of issues. But hey, let's blame the devs!

if you use a monitor with max 60hz use vsync, if you got a higher refresh rate, turn vsync off.
use this as launch option: -window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen

I also have this issue, the performance leaves a lot to be desired, it's much worse after the ashlands update.

Probably heat issue or failure of some pc part.

A lot comes down to the VRAM on the graphic card.. 2GB-Super Low tier, 4GB-Low tier, 6GB-Decent tier, 8GB-Mid tier, 16GB-Good tier, 32GB-Great tier, 64GB-God tier.. and also your Cores play a big role.. 6Cores or more your good for just about any game..
