Magic does seem so much better in this scenario, and many more imo as it doesn't stamina. With melee you need a good amount of health, or lots of stamina if you dodge more often than blocking/parrying. I might try to fight her again as pure melee eventually and see if there's a good strategy against her.
Her regeneration is very slow so you can retreat, heal, and rest and she won't have regained much health at all.
But its going to take a long time to kill her doing 40-58 frost and 35 blunt per swing with Frostner.
Black metal axe or black metal sword would serve better.
The only thing that changes this relation is if you can reliably hit 3 hit combo with one weapon and not with the other. And similar timings.
@OP
So yeah Mistwalker is likely the best weapon here. Black metal weapons cost noticably more stamina. But Frostner with better levels should be equal or better. Its just pain to fight her in melee.
Also dont block, roll. Especially on her close attack, that can sometimes hit twice and go through good parry even.
Also poison bombs do quite well vs spawns, demolisher could help too (including cheese).
Its fun to melee with friends but solo is just better with magic. Hard to say how much thou, probably not that much better, as damage per etir is quite similar to damage per stamina except eitir regens up to half as fast as stamina.
The queen is fast. You won't get a 3 swing combo in (except perhaps with flesh rippers, haven't tried those).
Frostner has a longer animation, a lower DPS, and the Queen is immune to the spirit damage. The slow from the frost doesn't help enough against the queen to allow a 3 swing combo before she gets another attack in. Swing once, move a bit while the stam you used regens, dodge as needed, repeat. Same as you did when you fought your first greydwarf brute when you were armed with a club or your first wolf in the mountains with your iron mace or sword.
AFAIR Maces and Swords had same animation speeds actually.
Yeah DPS is lower but DPStamina is tiny bit higher for Frostner (excluding all spirit but including upgrades). Ofc in practice a balance of the two decides how fast boss dies. Queen isnt exactly a free hit boss like Bonemass or Moder, but its not hard to reach stamina limit before she does something to make you disengage. Unlike, say Yagluth that you really want that burst damage (DPS).
Also im not bias against sword, did my melee with Mistwalker, but thats mostly due to reach and other benefits. Its definitely the best weapon we have. But just not by a any significant margin. In practice only reason why we deal more damage as we progress is increasing stamina pool. If you jump into someones game and give him best weapons he wont be much better off.
^^^ Best answer.
I wish the keymap for rolling could be changed. I saw a mod out there to enable rolling with double tap of direction.
I haven't tested it yet, but it would easier than the current combo of keys.
