leveling ground
One thing I have trouble with is leveling large areas to build on. For example I am trying to make a farm with wood framed around the crops. The ground does not level enough to place walkways with 1 X 1 flooring. Is there a mod that can help with this? I try raising the ground and re-leveling but it look horrible. Any ideas would be helpful.

This hoe mod is extremely good, costs 1 Stone to make and can cover a large area.

Place a wood floor first. Standing on it while using the hoe levels the ground to the same level as the wood is placed on.

The Hoe "adjusts" a 2m-radius patch to be closer to the level of the ground - not suface, ground - directly under the user's feet (or to the spot being pointed at by the cursor if shift-clicking), but doesn't really do it all at once (often times you'll need to pad the same spot several times to get it all evened out) and has some limitations (it won't adjust anything to be more than 1m higher or lower than it would have been normally). Afterwards, it may still look slightly wavy and have what looks like pebbles sticking over it, but those are just cosmetic. They will not interfere with building.

In order to get things exactly as you want it, you'll also want to familiarize yourself with how the Pickaxe works - as well as the "Raise ground" function of the Hoe - in order to get the ground to the "close-enough" state for the "Level ground" function to get everything smoothed out just right.

EDIT: Missed reading some of your post and just realized that you already understand some of the stuff I posted. Just pretend that I'm loopy from not having my coffee yet. Because I haven't.

they really need to make levelling ground better, cause using carts is... useless.... also, making stone roads should be easier to make. Ramps are needed aswell for bridges.

Pop all that into the suggestion forum too so they see it (eventually). :)

Using the hoe to pave pathways is a bit of an art for sure. I find holding shift while clicking creates a more gradual slope.

OP - In those situations I lay the floor down and then pickaxe the dirt that shows above floor level, most of the time it works. :)
