I nominate the Mortar and Pestle as the most annoying crafting station upgrade.

I recommend putting crafting station upgrades underneath the floor, it saves you a lot of space in your house.

Nothing will be as annoying as the bellow. But yeah, the mortar is a PITA for sure.

I usually hide it in a fake roof, or under the floor, or sometime on top of my oven that I place near hearth/chimney.

I built a 2 story wall for my main area, and then above my crafting station and just added a floor above it, and stuff my upgrades up there.

I'm baffled why the dev(s) made the upgrades so finicky.

I feel a better more elegant solution would have been to have the work bench "evolve" in appearance with each upgrade.

Another bellows. It's by far the most annoying. You can hide most everything else behind/under walls. On no, not the bellows, unless the wall is super close.
