Ship disappeared, how to track back what happened.
Is there any vanila way to learn what happened to our ship?

We could bet it was docked near our base in meadows, but after some time we noticed it is gone, no resoources in sight and we have no clue of what happened to it.

Would really appreciate any vanila friendly way to learn what happened or hear suggestions of how to trackback this. Thanks.

"our ship". so youre playing on a server? dedicated? can other players access the world?

resources that are not within range of a player base structure despawn after 2 ingame days to prevent worldfile bloat.

if the ship wasnt secured it could have been destroyed by an enemy or wave activity and then the materials despawned.

any mods active?

No mods, no problematic players, but we did not paid attention to the boat. It was anchored below hill, we were working on fortifications and resources on hill. So propably it got destroyed and resources despawned...f..... thats dumb.
I suspect it might have something to do with saves.

For example, I was playing and the host disconnected when we logged back in there hadn't been a save for some time.

The boat was gone. We respawned at the Altar

We had considered it and its contents completely lost until we stumbled upon it days later at.

It was located at the spot where the last autosave placed it.

If your path through the ocean is clear perhaps you can back track and find it floating somewhere along that old path.

To prevent the dissappearing boat trick in the future, use your axe to dismantle the boat and store the materials in a chest inside your base (or boat house if you build one) rebuild it when ready to sail, repeat as needed.

This is what I do. Boats are way safer to keep in a chest than in the water. XD
I have had 100% success in storing a boat in a 3 tile wide dock made of stone, with piers on both sides of the dock. Once the boat is inside the narrow dock, I lock it down by placing log beams. One just behind the bow, and one just behind the stern. This holds the boat down below its normal floating point so it doesn't move.

Well definitely its worth to try. Well its not like we need resources, we have tons. But its a matter of principle and we voyaged a lot with that boat so its part of the team. And you dont chop down a teammate so you could fit his remains into a box and pop it back into existence once needed, zombie-boats (Zibs) - yeah they are basicaly part of valheim mentality, like a lore almost 😁.

We were yet to build a port, that is why I think it was simply destroyed and despawned, since I am not sure if it was within a table range or not... I know that things near structures dont despawn, this case was an oversight / bad luck....
