Taming Wolves
I know the basic taming requirements, but my question is how easy or difficult is it to move wolves to my starting location after I tame them?

Is it even possible? Or would I have to fence them in on location before taming them?

I didn't have any problem moving a one star to my starting base (where zero star wolves already were.) Once they were tamed I built a small ramp over a boat and then pushed the wolf off of that onto the boat. I made the trip back during the day and avoided getting too close to the shore where something might spawn. If the wolf sees an enemy they will jump off to attack them. If it is the serpent they will die during the fight.

After taming them it's rather easy. You can tell your tame wolves to follow you. Moving them across water is more difficult, and they don't have a lot of HP so try to avoid any combat.

Thanks for the info, will they follow you through portals? I'm guessing they wont.

There is a mod for that.

The hardest part about getting them back to base is that everything will attack them, including and especially drakes. You should clear the path you plan to take and maybe put down some workbenches to keep it clear. (I would say campfires, but wolves love campfires in a bad way.)

More trouble than they are worth tbh. Unless all the bosses are on one land mass, otherwise the boys jump in the water to attack serpents if you manage to herd them on a boat. I find enough wolf meat and pelts just doing the mountains that there was never a need to farm them for that.

The basic idea was to have them as a sort of inner defense for inside my fortifications. If they suicide on campfires that will probably not work lol

That's a fair idea but it wont work the way might expect as the damn wolves will go ape when enemies are near and claw and bite their way through your walls to get to the enemies. So leave an outer palisade that will keep a degree of physical separation or the Wolf guards will bore holes OUT of your base!

wolves have a follow command
use on them to follow/unfollow

as long as your base is guarded well ditch/trench they will not be able to get to mobs
its easy to block their path, a 1/2 block step is enough to keep them in place

I'm using 2* wolfs as an outer base defense in the meadows:

They're self sustaining because VH keeps spawning deer, necks and boars when I'm in the area and even the two Seeker+Solider attack events only killed maybe 12 (~10% maybe).
Got those events in the short timeframe between Mistlands's release and the update restricting Seeker events from happening in the meadows.

But they're a HUGE FPS drain! :steamsad:

If they are not inside a roofed structure, yes.
