Wood farming questions
Got bored of demolishing forests, so I am about to setup a tree farm.

Some questions:

1) Are all the types of wood: Wood, Fine, Core, Ancient and Dark. Correct? Or are there more?

2) Do *** planted *** trees grow in any biome? For example, I am thinking of using the side of a Mountain biome to take advantage of gravity.

3) I will likely still need to chop a bunch of logs, but to minimize the pain (and handle the issue of some trees not generating enough seeds for replanting), is there a good mod that deals with stumps and replants any chopped trees instantly?

For the purists... yes, I know you probably consider this cheating, but TBH I don't care. I play games to relax and have fun, so after doing it "the hard way" for a while I have no problem eventually switching to mods to bypass repetitive and boring tasks.

So, I do a light amount of wood farming too (need it for everything after all) I've never noticed running out of Beech Seeds.

I think vanilla requires most trees (same as crops) to be planted in their biome. I use the Plant Everything mod which allows them (and all manner of pickables) to be planted everywhere.

You can also turn the world modifiers up to 3x to decrease the grind a bit. I assume that includes the seed drops as well.

I'd have to look back through my mods, but there are ways to manipulate growth rates. I can't remember off the top of my head which mod allows me to set the growth time, trees grow pretty quickly vanilla though. I don't know of one that removes stump and instantly replants though.

Thanks, I'll look at Plant Everything to plant where I want, and the world modifiers for the seed rate to ensure that enough are produced.

Not worried about speed of growth, the default is fine, but I would definitely like something that does the auto-replanting of the trees.

UPDATE: I have not tested it yet, but it looks like this combination of mods will do everything I need (and a few things I had thought about needing but had not looked into yet), and I think I read that they are compatible with each other:
- Plant Everything
- Plant Easily
- Trees Reborn

All the types of trees will grow in the Meadows. Leave at least 3 tiles between each tree when you plant them so they grow to full size. (I leave 6 tiles between oaks).

The ancient seeds you get from Gray Dwarf Brutes and Gray Dwarf spawners are only useful to summon the Elder. You can't plant them to produce Ancient trees.

Dark wood isn't a tree either. Its created in the building menu by using tar and ordinary wood.

If you use your axe on the stumps you get a little more (ordinary) wood. If you set the resource slider to 3x when you are going to cut tress, You'll average 1 acorn per oak tree cut down. You'll get more seeds than trees cut down for the other types.

there are currently 3 plantable wood types (wood, fine, core), ancient is only found in swamps, and the dark is made from tar+wood. my strategy in vanilla is this: i find a large slope usually near a black forest/ meadow boundary, relatively close to where my base is. then i terrace the slope, which helps with planting. i use pine up top for core, fir along the middle (i like to use the fir over the beech, because the trees tend not to get hung up on one another as much) and birch at the bottom (though oak is fine too if you've got the seeds for it).

Most trees wont grow in mountains. I havent tested fir trees.
Just find a meadow somewhere, on a slope if you want to use gravity, plant your trees and leave a portal for easy access for harvesting. Seeds arent a problem for beech trees.

I love the trees reborn one, just be careful. I say this because after you chop down your tree, and the stump, there will be a baby tree that will pop up, and you can chop that, if you do, I noticed they wont regrow.
